  • what a useless study..

  • BBC bit reads like typical wooly inconclusive study findings being sensationalised.

  • saved by the drink!

I wish, just a late shift at work, then a dash to Liverpool Street for the train to Norwich to see the missus.

  • Just registered for this: http://toughmudder.com/

Tough Mudder is not your average lame-ass mud run or spirit-crushing 'endurance' road race. It's Ironman meets Burning Man, and it is coming to a city near you **...

Probably the toughest event on the planet

** Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. With the most innovative courses, half a million inspiring participants, and more than $2 million dollars raised for the Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder is the premier adventure challenge series in the world.

The only tough thing about this event is describing it without using the word 'gay'. Which should not be used as an insult. Even tho it's a bunch of lonely men comparing cock-length in a swamp.

Our obstacle courses are designed by the Special Forces to test you in every way and are meant only for truly exceptional all-around people, not for people who have enough time and money to train their knees to run 26 miles.

Yeah, this £100 obstacle course will really show those flash lah-di-dah marathon runners who will wilfully spunk off 24 of the Queen's new pounds on the local marathon (Northampton).

Probably the toughest event on the planet

In the same sense that Carlsberg is probably the best lager.

  • ^ agreed.

"Urbanathlon" events sound like they could fit a similar description. Happy to be shouted down tho.

  • What - You disagree? You're telling S Ed to disagree? The two studies you link to disagree?

I disagree that it is a useless study.
The bbc's report of it is poor.

  • Now for a semi-useful post, just back from a Manchester Athletics Network meeting, I go on behalf my club.

Run England are apparently offering £15 off trainers at Sweatshop if you sign up to their network. Think it means you get encouraging & helpful emails etc, maybe other stuff too...

I need to check the website for more details when off phoneternet & at a proper computer, but if keen Google it before I can update.

Might come in handy, especially for those starting out as it's aimed at recruiting more peeps to running.

  • Pre-emptive^

I disagree that it is a useless study.
The bbc's report of it is poor.

Must confess I have only read Bbc news so I was unfair calling the study but it seems like standard sensationalism of something we all know; exercising hard damages muscles and they usually recover pretty quickly, sometimes it can take longer.

  • I will fuck you in a game of fell running

I'm probably going to do the Box Hill race at the end of Jan if you want to play that game.

  • I will fuck you in a game of gang-bang.

    Heh! Vey gut.

The only tough thing about this event is describing it without using the word 'gay'. Which should not be used as an insult. Even tho it's a bunch of lonely men comparing cock-length in a swamp.

Its 20kms with lots of mud and shit and monkeybars. Its hardly going to be a walk in the park. Also, I will fuck you in a game of cock length.

I'm probably going to do the Box Hill race at the end of Jan if you want to play that game.

Im not even sure what fell running is, to be honest.

  • ^ love it

But will you fuck me in a game of fuck you?

  • Im not even sure what fell running is, to be honest.

    Running through fields.

  • Its a beautiful winter day. -3 deg, dry, and windless. There's a foot of crisp white snow on the ground. My winter running gear is lying ready at home...

....and I have to work tonight.

    buggerit.

  • Midnight run, innit.

Might do. Theres currently no real difference between 16:00 and 0:00 anyway.

  • Except for about 10°C

The suns been gone for a while by 4. So not much is going to happen between then and midnight.

  • Today is technically my rest day- but as I have no running scheduled on the other "work" days this week, does that mean I can go for a run this evening?

This is semi-joking and semi-serious, I am wondering as running seems to use very different muscles from cycling, albeit sharing the same cardio system.

  • Isn't Fell running basically the best way of breaking your leg as far away from anyone likely to find and help you?

  • Isn't Fell running basically the best way of breaking your leg as far away from anyone likely to find and help you?

yes, if youre shit at it

  • Ah, ok, so as long as nothing goes wrong you'll be fine.

That would be winter mountain running. The best bit, is the way you dress to be comfortable, running hard through snow, at -10. Which means you'll freeze if you so much as tweak a muscle.

  • Bring your phone.

Something tells me that if I had some hills/mountains to play on, I'd enjoy running a lot more than I do now, plodding around a park.

  • The Tough Mudder looks loads of fun, I have already signed up to the Scottish one.

The Green Belter looks a laugh too.

What else are folk signed up to -
