Nice one. Slippery slope to road 5k's, then track!

The awkwardness of the lady running up to me to try and put a medal round my neck as I finished was almost enough to put me off for life tho!
To keep things in perspective, my my Bill ran the Great Lakes Race on the same day I was on Arran. We usually run pretty similar times, and the two courses are quite similar, 2000m~ over 20km~, I came 27/109, I think he was 219/320. I'm still taking it tho!

So four weeks decent training does make a difference. Ran 34.10 for a new road 10k pb tonight.
Highly recommend the long Bennington 10k if you are ever in the area.

Bit of an open ended question, but how do people deal with burnout/coming down after a big race? Work has been really busy, ankle feeling a bit thrashed, and generally feeling like I'm not up to running. Had a week off but now feel more tired than I did after the race! Do people wait until they feel more rested, or is it a case of having to force yourself to get back out? Even a week off feels odd at this stage, and I feel like the fitness is going to fall away, which is particularly hard after it felt so hard to earn in the first place.

I feel like the fitness is going to fall away
It won't in the immediate future.
Personal experience... I'm a few weeks post EfGB first 2 I was fucked no thoughts of running. Last Sat I ran for 20mins and it was great but a dodgy curry that night fucked me over again 2 days in bed/bathroom no food etc so I binned off the week and am starting back with club run tomorrow. It might still be too soon. I'm missing Sale Sizzler #1 on Thurs as it'd be silly to race off the above.
I defo had a point later last week where it felt my body was in full "repair" mode as everything ached, esp my legs.

I'm having a major clear out of stuff at the moment.
Does anybody want a barely used Plantar Fasciitis night splint? Its this one, in large (size 9+)
Free to a good home, happy to post in return for forum donation otherwise collection from SE10.
I had PF badly for about a year and this splint did provide a lot of relief although moving to a house with carpet rather than wood floors ultimately made the biggest difference in my recovery!

burnout/coming down after a big race
I get this all the time. I think it's pretty natural as you're looking forward to this big goal and everything you are doing is working towards it. then suddenly the goal is gone and you're knackered so there's no motivation to get out for a run.
I havent run since Endure24. Still don't feel like I've caught up on sleep (will I ever with two kids?), and legs certainly haven't recovered. I haven't really had the urge to go running so don't mind too much. Will probably go to the club tomorrow and take it easy but that might still be too soon. Won't know until I try.
Don't worry about losing fitness, you need to recover before you start another block of training so take the time you need and go when you feel up to it. -

In terms of sleep: I have two kids. I went to bed at 730 on Friday night and managed to sleep through till 530 and then got gifted two more bonus hours
I also went to bed at 10 last night.I highly recommend throwing the towel in early and pleading/whining to your other half you're just going to bed. Every now and again obvs.

After 10 is a late night for me. Getting to bed on time is the only way I can make sure I get enough sleep most nights. Get woken in the night, up early and have to function at work so sleep is a must.

Cheers for the feedback lads, deffo gonna opt for a bit more rest, genuinely couldn’t face looking at my training plan, and legs have been a bit achey. Good to be reminded that needing rest is a pretty normal part of the cycle, instead of feeling guilty about the implied sense of laziness.
Quite chuffed to see I managed to sneak into the top quarter on Arran, 27/109. Maybe I'll do some more of these trail races!
