I often do that, but I'd rather run at 2000 and eat after. (I have weird eating times though)

I can't exactly say to the wife who's cooked my dinner. Thanks love but I'll eat it later.

• #2004
Probably not. I'm not so encumbered ;)

• #2005
I'll just go for a run tomorrow morning if I have an early night tonight.

Also how about running at night if certain sections are in total black? I'm tempted to buy a head torch as it'll make running down some of the country lanes much easier.

I love winter running. I use those Innov8's previously posted. I also have strap on studs. But they are horrible to run in, and mask the rubber tread of the innov8s. So I've stopped using them.
I'd advise getting away from roads and paths. Ice can cause painful injuries. Running in snow is ace, good traction, and good cushioning. I have a powerful LED headlight*. running in the pitch black with only a cirlce of light is such a buzz. With a little practice, its almost safe ;)
(*go to a climbing shop, and buy quality)
ED: boring point. But always bring your phone. I can run in -15C in thermal tights, merino top, and thin wind proof jacket. But I would'nt last long limping home with a simple twisted ankle.

I did it! Just did nearly two miles, and didn't walk once! It would appear that I'm a bit fitter than I was during the summer, I didn't even get madly out of breath. Let's see if I can do it again tomorrow.
Thats a decent constant running distance. The improvement curve is steep at the start, but you sound quite far up it already.
Just watch the legs. Running is pretty brutal compared to cycling, due to the constant impacts.

Are these any good for running tights?
I have scares down both legs, about 30cms long from those. they move around, but not so much as to spoil the focus of the chaffing.
Proper lycra tights FTW.
Gore stuff is nice.

Yep walking down stairs hurts quite a lot right now.
But I'm pleased, I found my groove and the towpath wasn't busy so I just kept going and going and going. I think I'll keep that same route and just try to do it faster, according to the number of songs I listened to it took me about 18 minutes.

the general idea is not to worry about speed, or even distance. Just focus on running for a longer period of time.

Barefoot in snow is awesome, btw.

If you mean using barefoot style shoes. For once I can actually see the appeal of them.
Interesting.

That too.

TK Maxx have Vivo Barefoot shoes in at the moment- £30 down from £80.
I'd have got a pair to experiment with, but they did not have my size

My only worry with the gore clothing is it'll keep me too warm and I'll overheat. I've got a lovely cycling gore jacket (you can remove the sleeves to use as a gilet) and It's so warm I only wear it with a jersey in the middle of winter.

Running tights come in 2 main types like cycling bibs. Plain or brushed lycra. The plain is usually enough for most conditions.
I've worn out my Concave (now gore?) tights, have near worn through my NBs, and lost a pair of salomans (how do you lose tights FFS).
So will be investing in some Skins thermal compression tights in the near future.

What's the difference between plain and brushed lycra when it comes to running tights then?

Run home last night pushed it all the way 39 minutes elapsed for 5.5 miles. Average speed 6.58 min miles
Run in this morning gentle jog all the way 46 minutes for 5.1 miles. Average speed 9.11 min miles!
Looking forward to a day off tomorrow, then 8.5 miles Thursday morning and 14 on Saturday.
No time for intervals this week but my tempo run last night has given me a fair amount of confidence that I will have the speed to do a marathon at 8 min miles and hit my 3.30 target

Brushed Lycra is furry/fleecy on the inside and is warmer than just plain Lycra.

Compression tights during physical activity strikes me as being wrong.
Afterwards, I can understand - But during?
I use Skins compression gear for most things now. The idea is that your muscles wobble about less. So you expire less energy stabilising them. I dont know or care if there are performance gains from this TBH. But if you carry a lot of muscle bulk. It certainly feels good.
I think the calf compressors help reduce cramp. So I wear them when running longer distances.

For all the barefoot aficionados:
http://www.sportsscientists.com/2011/11/barefoot-running-overview.htmlProper stuff from actual scientists. I haven't read it properly, but the 3 key points sound extremely sensible and cautiously pro-barefoot.

Woah there. It depends what type of sports scientist.
This could be seen as sports science: (its not really, but a good read and a forum members)
http://www.cell.com/biophysj/abstract/S0006-3495(11)01196-9?utm_source=ECE001&utm_campaign&utm_content&utm_medium=email&bid=T6B5R2F%3AFO3J1S7and that's fairly 'sciencey'.
Anyhow. 5k, c.20mins. It felt good, now to double the distance and keep the same pace.

Also what do you think of these headphones? They are on sale today and look quite good for running;

Sports scientists. A little less sciency that your average actual scientist.

I was planning to go for a run tonight, now working late and Mrs. Spenceey is cooking dinner, which means I'll have no time when I get in.
Would it be stupid to then eat my dinner by say 8pm and go out for a run at 10pm?
