Bonus points if they make me look a complete tool.

I’ve got Airpods, looks like I’ve got a couple of tampons dangling in my ears. They work great but not that cheap.

Just buy a smaller phone? Sorted!

Ran 13 miles. My longest distance for 13 years. Celebrated with a hot bath, cup of tea and all the biscuits.

Chapeau to you...

Hot dull ache in Achilles tendon. Plus pain on the ankle when pushing off.
Sigh
Old age sucks balls -

Excellent, I haven't run that distance since April. Tempus fugit.
13.0 or 13.11 miles?
-
• #17135
13.0. It's still a half marathon in my book :)

Been trying to get my fell fitness back. Realised I’ve not actually been running regularly for a lot longer than I thought.
Recce’d the Ilkley fell race course on Monday and again yesterday, a good reminder of what hard going actually feels like (and it’s only a five mile course!). Slogging up very muddy/snow/slushy steep climbs, getting blasted on the top by a killer headwind, 3 inches of snow atop the slush preventing you from building any sort of pace etc. Absolutely grim.
Then the low winter sun shines across the snow covered Moor, casting beautiful shards of golden light through the heather and you think “Bloody hell Yorkshire, yer reyt fit”Also, first time out in compression socks - big thumbs up.
Also, massive thumbs up for the Helly Hansen Lifa Merino jobby I got for Christmas. Kept the wind out remarkably well, but didn’t overheat and generally regulated temp perfectly.

Were the compression socks to combat a problem or just for comfort? I’ve been getting a slight reemergence of shin splints and thinking of giving them a whirl.
Gave the shins a gentle foam roll yesterday, most painful thing EVER. -
• #17139
Tried them: for the craic/keep legs warm/marginal performance gainz/see if they help with ankle tendonitis.
So far so good. -

Shinsplints, as in multiple micro fractures to Tibia bone.
Or Tibialis Anterior muscle becoming rock hard and trying to burst out of its compartment.
A good test for the former is single leg hopping. If you can't manage 20+ decent hops without shin pain, then don't try running being as that's circa 500 hops per Km.

Does anyone know which club runs Mile End track on Thursdays?
-
• #17143
Ta.
Looking for a group to run track with, in a vague effort to kick start some proper training.
They look a bit HiNRG though. Whatever happened to running clubs with crabby fogies.

If you find one, pls let me know. I’m now in the area and looking for a crap running group.

First proper marathon pace related tempo run last night, round Battersea Park. 6 laps = just over 10 miles, with each lap split into 1km @ 95% of MP and 1.8km @ MP. My target paces for 2:29 marathon are 5:59/m and 5:42/m, but I found myself happy to stick with a group being led by a 2:28 aspirant, and average paces ended up as 6:01/m and 5:37/m. With warm-up lap, total run was 12 miles @ 5:57 (plus 16 miles round trip on the bike from Blackheath).
Really pleased to finish the session feeling relatively comfortable, as these sessions are going to build up in volume to around 14/15 miles. And it is only January, so best not be killing myself just yet. Plenty of time!

When you put it like that, it makes me realise how bonkers fast that is.
Then I realised it’s because I’m used to people talking about a 3.30 not 2.30. Fast. So fast. All of the fast.Ps what do you have for breakfast?
-
• #17148
what do you have for breakfast?
I'd reckon....

Almost invariably* a large bowl of porridge, and since I've been trying to wean myself off added sugar that's usually with oat milk, bit of normal milk, a sprinkling of cinnamon and pinch of salt.
*This morning being an exception; maybe some sugary cravings after last night's exertions so I treated myself to a couple of Weetabix topped with lots of Fruit 'n Fibre. :) -

Ha! Pretty close.
Headphones. Which ones? I had some alinexpress jobs. Took forever to arrive. Worked and then they didn't.
Bluetooth so I can pair to my mini iPod thing.
