  • I noticed when I was looking up our local run that they only want people doing a single Christmas run but are happy with two New Year’s Day runs. You could just not get a time for one...

  • Peckham Rye is my local: it was voted "London's prettiest Parkrun", and is dead flat which is a plus if you've got a passenger.

I used to run Hilly Fields for ages before Peckham Rye started up, but HF is a bit... hilly.

  • Seems not. Tho I'm biased. Either way he did something crazy & special getting even close to top solo unsupported.

Odd that original journo didn't discuss things with KJ before publishing.

  • If you’re coming to Peckham Rye Park Run this Saturday, Runhead are holding a bake sale, so bring your pennies!

  • Peckham Rye closer than Hilly Fields, and flatter definitely. Brockwell Park is another option, also pretty close to Dulwich, and somewhere between PR and HF for undulating-ness.

I ran my one and only Xmas Day parkrun at Hilly Fields two years ago. Was still pissed from the night before and felt horrendous. Second runner home, first in a Santa hat!

  • thanks all - peckham rye it is then followed by dulwich. I'll not be setting the world alight in either so I don't mind only getting a single time, but I have yet to be beaten by a double pushchair in around 20/30 runs!

I'll see if I can get Santa hats for the twins (and me)

  • I miss parkrun!

  • IS there a summary of today anywhere? I can't dedicate 90 minutes to listening out to it.

currently working my way through fellrunner.org.uk looking for 2018 races.

Yet to catchup on today but will try later, only just got littlun to go to sleep.

Any particular fell races caught your eye?

P.s. Time on feet Xmas shopping today has left me on a crutch to keep weight off heel. Not fun. Tbh I'm not looking after it well enough and yet to have full physio check only a brief chat.

  • Looking at some around north wales/ shropshire but also open to peak district. anything within a few hours of London really.

Got some new red shorts for today's x country. I hope they give me @philpub power.

  • anyone nearby to Crowthorne, Berkshire want to do this 10k?

Am too sick to run, someone could pretend to be me (and post me a PB time). I did this last year, its a pretty nice run...

Is the Peckham one the closest option to SE1? Neither Burgess Park or Southwark park are on. Might go if we don't go on the waifs and strays ride.

  • I want a cheap; as cheap as possible; running watch that will display pace and heart rate (with the ANT+ HR monitor that I have), 2nd hand ideally. Which one?

  • I have a forerunner 620, not sure if it's ant+ compatible but comes with own strap too.

back panel is showing its age and may be due for a new strap soon (~£15 on amazon)

    £50 ?

  • Fun and games at the South of the Thames "Senior" XC champs in Aldershot yesterday. Spot the stag! I hung around for a mere 6 pints to help @juanito celebrate afterwards, then left before it got messy. Thankfully the mankini had already been retired before the pub crawl commenced.

  • If @amey doesn't want this I would be interested (if you don't mind posting)

  • Let's see what @amey says but otherwise happy to post.

Would be £5 for 1st class post.

  • ...where did he pin the race number?

  • @amey I have a Forerunner 10 you can have for £23 posted if you want? Very basic and doesn’t have Ant+, but I would argue that HR is pretty naff when running, with the exception of long slow runs when you don’t want to go above a certain threshold. I certainly wouldn’t (be able to) look at HR metrics during hard intervals, of which HR rise would be delayed anyway..

  • sorry dude. just arranged for him to collect tomorrow.

  • No worries, thanks

  • Bah. First kid sick from Friday to Sunday, then gf and second kid now sick. Very difficult to get out. Also feeling demotivated with the cold - anyone else that way? Can't quite muster the effort to do the Rotherhithe spur when it's zero degrees out.

  • Yep. One twin had a bug two weeks ago which involves a lot of sick. Twin two yacked at nursery two days later and was ill for the weekend, daughter and mum also came down with it but just had stomach pain.

I was fine, but ran a frosty xc in spikes and hurt my Achilles. I spent all week in the house drinking.

Weirdly managed my fastest time at the club relay tonight though.

The rest might do you good, don't panic!

  • And don't slip on ice whatever you do
