Southern Road Relays for me today: 3 laps of Gravesend cyclopark. Slightly down on last year's time but I'll blame the wind for that. It was a good day for our club; we had three mens teams, both the a and b teams finished on the top 20 and will be at Sutton Park in two weeks.
Any fast recovery measures welcomed before tomorrow mornings 16 miles round Kingston.

Have now contracted sciatica. After years of one injury after another, no ultras and barely pushing out a couple of slow marathons a year, pretty much at the stage of sacking it all off and getting fat.

I've raced cross around there. Did they take you up the hill in the middle?

The clue is in the title of the event.

There was one long drag from the bottom to the top of the course. I think we ran it the opposite way to the way it is cycled. All on roads though.

Sutton Park
If you don't puke at the relay handover you didn't hit the last climb hard enough... enjoy!

Sorry to hear this.
You could always take up cycling... I hear fixies are pretty cool.

Kingston Breakfast Run done. Felt pretty good throughout. Last two miles were tough due to turning into the wind and dodging other runners.
The goody bag made up for a couple of logistical issues at the start and out on the course.
Hope the pacing went well @Sainsburys_Ed . The 6 minute pacer was only doing 8 miles and wasn't particularly good. It wasn't the switch off and follow a pacer run I was hoping for.

Well done, shame the 6 min mile pacer wasn't great, unreality they probably need to pay someone to do that!
We ended up with 4 pacers for the 7 min mile group so split at halfway into 7 min mile and a neg split group aiming to get down to 6:52 average which I went with, felt pretty comfortable till the last two miles where the wind and carrying a 6ft flag for 16 miles caught up with me a bit but ground it out for a 6:51 average.

• #15212
Good effort. That wind must have been punishing with a flag. Couldn't you have ditched it?
4 weeks to go.

figured it was good resistance training, plus i'd stashed a load of gels and my gloves in the bag, so wanted to get it back to the start!
Hopefully i wont have it with me on marathon day!
4 weeks indeed, I have one more week of training and then start taper, my biggest challenge is making sure I stick to the diet plan and get to the day as leans as possible, oh and finding some shoes to run in.
-
• #15214
Ha. I am still yet to find the shoes I am going to wear. Many people swear by the adidas adios but I have yet to find a pair of them that i feel fit properly. Mizuno hitogamis, which I have always worn before have changed their fit so i have orderd some old ones from America.

I'm more stressed about this than any other bit of logistics surrounding running the thing!
think im going to get a pair of Saucony Kinvara 8, they have a bit more cushioning than my inov8 road xtremes but the same 4mm drop and I tried some on today and they fundamentally seem to fit my feet...
-
• #15217
Kinvara are bliss. Also check out the Saucony Zealot for a bit more durable sole and there's a new model called Freedom which looks similar to Kinvara but mega ££, which therefore makes them better obvs.
-
• #15218
Yeah, but have you encountered the douchebags who ride them?

• #15219
The ultra I've signed up for has been cancelled :(
-
• #15220
Which one was that?
-
• #15221
Endure 1250, got an email yesterday saying that due to low numbers signing up they were scrapping it. It's a shame because it solved a lot of the things you have to worry about on a long run by being local to me, run on 5 mile laps, closed (signed) course.
Now looking at the Round Reading Ultra instead. It's still local and I know the start and probably some of the course (but route not published so can't be 100% sure), but needs navigation skills (a bit rusty) and GPS device ($$$), and is a 50k loop (or 2). -

and GPS device ($$$)
What do you consider £££ for a GPS unit? Only asking as I noticed there was a Etrex20 for sale in my local Cash Converters for £84 which I did consider buying for a nanosecond then realised that I had no real need of it!

Glad to hear there's another event you can do. Perhaps supply exceeding demand for Ultras already?

Feel cheated about never having had hallucinations, especially when everyone around you is getting them. My strongly feminist friend has very domestic hallucinations, and showed me non-existent ironing boards, rows of milk bottles and freshly set dining tables in the forest in the middle of the night. She finds it very embarrassing.
Glad i held off on trainers, sub 80 at wiggle in black

Otherwise feeling lousy so today's sessions binned off. Registered daughter for jr parkrun tho. #vicarioussuccessstartshere
