Crept under 22 for a 5 today.
The last 500 was a bit much. -

^ sounds like you left it out there.
Was on for top 50 / 325 at xc but lost 7 or 8 places on last lap. Did count in Snr Men A team and we finished 3rd Team, 1pt behind second. Not bad for a bunch of swimmers and cyclists up against strong local running clubs.
Refuelled and kit packed for early start to get to Littleborough in the morning where it could be less grassroots and more snowdrift Fell racing.

Final Surrey League of the season on Wimbledon Common yesterday. Felt like i was running reasonably well but I finished outside the top 50, a couple of the other clubs had got a lot of people out for this race. The start was absolutely bonkers, very fast and could barely see where we were going due to the density of runners.
@rhb Good luck at Littleborough.

Cheers on way now feeling sluggish but hopefully that'll burn off as I gradually wake up.
Sounds like a very strong turnout in your league yesterday.
P.s. was similar start at our xc yesterday, I took a few shoves and grumbles from others in order to get higher placing before it narrowed to singletrack, was a good if impolite decision!

Good running fellas. I was just a few places back from @juanito, running sort of OK but with Thursday's 10 mile tempo in my quads and distracted by a persistently niggly Achilles. Scraped into the scoring ten, 63rd position, and I've finished 2nd V40 for the league overall, some consolation. We also retained the team title, 5th year running. Unfortunately the Achilles was more tender than a bavette steak this morning, so I canned a planned long run very early on and I think a few days' rest (minimum) is in order to make sure I can get marathon training back on track before more damage is done. Get the bike out. Bah!

Just under 1h42 for a half marathon this morning, it was supposed to be a 1h45 easy run but felt like taking out some frustration so ditched the plan.
Really pleased, thought I would struggle to do it at all in 1:45 and I wasn't even flat out.

Feeling neither pleased or disappointed with today's run, roughly 1:25:20 at Wokingham half, so a PB by nearly a minute, and pretty much what the predictors say for a sub3 marathon, but things were looking like a much prettier story at 15k, averaging 3:57kms and on course for a low 1:24, until I got waylaid at a water station and decided to drop the hammer to latch back onto the group did so but wishing another 500m i just couldn't stay with the group anymore, tried to relax but could feel myself fighting and going slower and couldn't do anything about it! Going to enter another half in a few weeks and try again!

Short version: Faded, fell, felt organisation failed.
Long version: Didn't have a plan for Windy Hill beyond survival after the walk to start from train gave me a taste of what the spine racers go through.
Layered down a bit and carried just essentials which proved just enough.
Ran first bit ok then long (walk @ 170bpm) climb brought out lots of lactic from yesterdays efforts quickly.
Recovered on the very snowy & windy tops then having recaught a group and feeling good with them I went knee deep into a peat bog, climbed out quick and ok but mojo was rattled. Realised I was getting hungry so chewed down a Marathon and relaxed again holding place. Had to remove glasses as they were misting so became harder to find footing, a few warnings of rolling ankle on unseen stones then on the last muddy descent i eased right back losing places as i just couldn't see well enough and was getting grumpy. This wasn't much help as in last half mile I then tripped and belly mudslid a good few metres, ripping my jacket but lucky just that and a small cut to my hand. Finished ok without losing many more places.
Think yesterday left me short of energy for today and the tough conditions finished me off.
Grumble time.
1) No first aid at finish. Eventually they found 2 wipes and a plaster. Not biggy for me for a small cut but in different circumstances could be very worrying.
2) fancy chip timing didn't work well. I'm only in the results as I complained and had to tell them my finish time which they accepted on facevalue, no backup plan. Lots affected similarly, iPad 'live results' generated a queue of folks reporting no result.
This wouldn't be a huge problem either but with no backup recording at finish if I'd not spotted and raised this, just gone home, they'd surely have an MRT out there searching for me as I'd show as a starter who didn't finish and was unaccounted for?
I'll not be rushing to do another of their events quickly.
Ian Roberts Memorial with fresh legs next up.

possibly, my bigger concern is actually the loss of a week training to taper/recover. i think i have a shorter harder week for the sunday in my plan anyway for the surrey half, so perhaps i need to try to repeat without a mini taper rather than go for a PB...

Ditto. Just canned today's 25k after an easy 5k warmup with the GF. The ankle has felt stiff for a couple of weeks but hasn't deteriorated so I kept going but I half rolled it running off trail across the top of the moors on Friday. A vigorous ceilidh last night probably didn't help either. Today it started twinging uncomfortably so figured it is better to rest.
I'm planning to recce the final 40k of the SDW on Sunday so I'm going to avoid running mon-fri and hopefully do a gentle 10k on Saturday to test the ankle before Sunday.

Good running weekend everyone!
My long run started out feeling great but quickly became a war of attrition between my head and my legs. I only did 11 and a bit miles and not at an earth-shattering pace but for some reason it destroyed me and I'm still feeling tired today after a day off yesterday. Going to take the mileage nice and easy this week I think.

What was that rule about running when ill, above the chest = fine?
Got a pretty bleak head cold but feel OK body wise
-
• #14971
that's the one.
And for injuries: dull nag/throb - ok, sharp pain- stop.

After feeling terrible at the end of Saturday's run I set out yesterday to do a gentle 5k, aiming to kep the breathing easy and HR under control. I can normally judge this from my breath - 4 steps breathing in and 4 steps breathing out is generally a nice easy pace but I glanced at my watch about halfway round to see my HR at 180! I stopped and walked a little to get it back down then set off again and it was at a "normal" level for the rest of the run. Looked back at my pace over the run and it doesn't vary by much at all over the 5k, yet there is a massive difference in HR. Very odd but I still feel tired/achey today. Am I dying?

We're all dying.
