  • Might be stretching it a bit there...

  • Something along the lines of this.

Needs a bit of thinking and a tidy up around Alport Castles

  • First ever race* for me today. A 5 mile XC course in the local woods. Started at the back of the group due to a navigational faux pas on the way there; finished not quite at the back of the group. So much mud. I think the trainers will need to go through with the wash to remove the not so faint fetid dyke water pong. A good way to start a Sunday morning though. 2 more to go in January and February.

    *Not a race.

  • That would be about a 3 hour run

    Sounds ideal!

  • Looks good to me. I'd use a fair chunk of it but straight line to s.manc instead of the Glossop section, tho that'd take in the windswept plateau of boggy peat i think. Nice one.

  • Ran along Thames this morning. V.flat & foggy but nice. Did extra bridge than prev visit, got to Hammersmith & back for 12. Will go one further next time...

Looks on Str@v@ that mine & @juanito runs may have crossed, if you were out quite early that is! Hope you enjoyed it this morning too.

  • Took my running stuff home from work telling myself "I will run this weekend". Spent most of the weekend chopping wood and did not run. Fortunately I managed to fit 4 in last week and this week I'm hoping for another 4 in lunch times followed by xmas eve park run.

I've consciously slowed down recently and find consecutive days running no problem. On Friday I did an easy 5k with one fast effort (strava segment wanker) and got a new best time so it seems to be doing some good!

  • So, my new abode means on some days i'll be getting a bus, but its a 1.5K run to the bus, 35mins sat down, then a 3.5K uphill run to the office (and i really do mean up hill :( ) question is - how do i manage
    (a) being sweat bag on the bus going/coming back
    (b) not getting to cold while on said bus
    (c) carry phones, waterproof shell, bus & work passes, wallet etc etc in a non shakey shake backpack/carrying "thing"
    any advice much appreciated.

  • Personally, I'd cycle/run. What's the bus journey section, 15-20k? Could you ride part of this and find a suitable location for all-day bike lock up? Would serve as a good warm-up/cool-down.

  • I cycled commute the 30 miles return from my current location, but this would bump it up to 41miles and it would consist of a very very nasty trunk A road for 10miles of that, its a really really bad A road even to drive....

  • A) Going: run slower
    A) Coming back: run steady down the hill
    A) both ways: don't worry, it's only sweat from short runs plus you'll get a seat to yourself. ;)
    A) both ways: run further along bus route, until eventually you don't need to get the bus
    B) carry extra layer to wear. Frown at passengers who open windows.
    C) get bag closest to volume of what you'll carry. OMM are good, other brands available. Get a drybag for bits you need to keep dry too.

  • As I said, I'll probably try and tackle it in March if conditions are tolerable. If you're interested, I'd welcome the company on an E>W attempt.

  • That'd be good, got a fell race around 5th March (closest Sun) but otherwise would hope to be good for that. Shout nearer time?

  • first run after 6 weeks off to focus on cycling for a bit last night doing a 3k timed run, about 10 seconds slower than my best, I guess 3k is short enough that strength and technique can overcome a lack of run specific fitness, but does mean i'll stop using the test as a fitness test for myself!

  • Just checking - It's still T-shirt and shorts weather, right?

  • Obvs.

Although I did run with my hands in my armpits for the first five minutes of my run the other day.

  • Ran in a vest yesterday, today is warmer so I should probably go topless right?

  • ...and 2" shorts, obvs

  • Vest and shorts weather

    Ftfy.

  • If you forget your PE kit, it's still vest and pants weather.

  • Ah those were the days, alone in the changing room with the PE teacher, stripping down to your underwear and a pair of plimsoles. He always had a smile on his face though, whatever the weather.

  • ....and you had to have a shower even though you weren't dirty. Ah those days.

  • Forgot your trunks? Swim naked then.

Hindsight makes the world a far, far creepier place.
