Totally decided I can sub 1:30 a hm. Just have to look at the pictures from sunday to see I'm carrying a few kg extra. I lacked strength as the race went on. I think I have, or are close to having, the pace now I just need to do more long runs. Something I'd never really done until this year.
My unproven, born of ignorance, optimism is telling me gym work and long runs will get me close. I suppose I should workout if I want to enter another this autumn or next spring.

why wait that long, there are loads over the next few weeks and you'll take time off just from more experience at the distance?
You'll get stronger just by running them, add in a bit of careful weightloss and some training during the week, you'll make plenty of progress then you can re assess targets and spend the summer working towards whatever the goal is then...

A week and a bit off due to chest lurgy. 52km lost. Oh well, no point trying to make up that.
Cheeky 6km run yesterday to go look for my gloves I'd dropped after 5-a-side, no luck. 11.5km commute in today.
It's nice running with fresh-ish legs, looking forward to the taper (and then the marathon itself a month today).
"Fast HM" this weekend according to the plan. Going to be a nice flat blat along the towpath and back I think (checks high tides all ok for this weekend).
35km horror run next weekend (probably Friday and Saturday). That's going to be fun...

There's a bit of Spring in the air today, definitely getting to interesting times in people's marathon training plans. Hang in there!
I just had my last quality effort before this weekend's Southern road relay champs, and fitness appears to be coming back nicely since the achilles started settling down. Sutcliffe Park is a favourite venue for tempo running as it's flat and traffic-free, and 1.5 mile w/u from home is just about right. Set myself the target of a 4 mile progressive tempo run with splits of 5:50 / 5:40 / 5:30 / 5:20, and managed 5:50 / 5:40 / 5:29 / 5:16. 4 miles is pretty much the distance I need to run on Sunday so if I can do it close to the faster end I'll be pretty happy.

I'm visiting the mother-in-law-to-be on Sunday. Shame.
Managed to knock out 6k.
First 30 seconds were all "this feels amazing, my legs are like a gazelle's".
Then it was all "wtf I can barely breathe sod this for a game of soldiers oh well i'll try and make it to the bridge and back at least actually make that just to the park ffs this feels like such an effort"

Is that your 3rd half-marathon in a row? You're just banging them out for a laugh now.

Ran home today, realised that if I kept the same pace I'd be hitting 5k in ~21 minutes so backed off a bit as I went past the Houses of Parliament, got to Dulwich Park just on the hour, whole run completed in daylight - a first for the year.
Tres bon.

I have to go to Leicester on Saturday to get the car, otherwise I'd be Park-running, I feel like I'm getting a bit of spring back in my step.

You're on leg 11 * wolf whistle *, so you've got more recovery time. ;-)

Has this blog been shared here yet? Quite a good read:

In other news remembered I got stopped mid run yesterday by another runner to compliment me on my choice of top (Ashmei sold on to me kindly by @andy_k). Was a first, didn't know what to say back. /csb

Stopped? Whilst running? Nothing and no one should stop you for any reason! ;)
Good informative post, ta.
