Disposable razors do a passable job of getting tough bits off. Use caution, but it's worked for me. I wear chainsaw boots 10-12hrs a day so they're pretty tough, especially on the balls of my feet.
LadyLiz went to a chiropodist once to get it sorted and has just maintained ever since with a pumice. -

our course on Wimbledon was surprisingly tough, not much mud and pretty dry underfoot. we won the fixture as a team and then dominated the pub as well. Wasabi on the way home sorted me out a treat. legs have been quite heavy since.
Am looking at either Wokingham or Cardiff as a spring half marathon.

yeah that boscombe 10 k goes under the wessex way into queens park and is on trails
tasty course
when is it? -

Yeah, do Wokingham. Cardiff is miles away, and flippin' expensive. I've not entered yet but Wokingham is looking like a distinct possibility. Top work by the team on Saturday, I think my post-mara legs will be good for the next one.

which reminds me that I need to enter Wokingham half, its the only distance race I haven't PB'd in this year, think a 1:25 is doable, which I think is 4:02min kms which sounds doable, I think....

At that time it wasn't the balls of my feet that were the problem, it was corns on both little toes which he pared down with a scalpel. Legacy of tight shoes in my youth. Using a pumice stone doesn't work for me, so the Body Shop foot file once a week does the trick.
A visit to the chiropodist would be useful with self maintenance afterwards, interspersed with pedicures for those 'feeling a bit flush and I deserve a treat' moments.

Anyone want a pair of Nike gloves for a small forum donation? Size XL (middle finger to wrist is 19cm, palm width 9.5cm).
I have issues with numb fingers in the cold but these don't make a difference to it so they may as well go to someone else who. PM your details if you do. -

Ok, I'm going to book it - what has it come to when the idea of someone slicing bits off my feet with a scalpel seems the best option? And then I'm also going to do the self-maintenance/treat combo afterwards. #becauseimworthit

Struggled through a 5km on the dreadmill at the gym, hate this period of getting back in shape. made all the more difficult by the weight I've put on. All I can think while I'm blowing out my arse at mile 2 is I ran a comfortable sub 1:40 half only 7.5 months ago. what the fuck.
-

Good plan. Also, the foot doctor might point out other stuff for consideration. Regard this treatment as 'personal investment' :-).

sub 1:40 half
You done it once, you'll do it again.
Get off the treadmill and out into the autumn sun. It's lovely.

at the moment i'm so dubious of my running ability i can't bring myself to go outside for a run as I know I can't run for shit. i fucking hate treadmills but for the next week or so that's the way i'm going to be getting at least a couple of miles in my legs.
looking at maybe doing an 8-week fat-adaptation phase to wean myself off carb fuelling before marathon training, basically 8 weeks of eating no carbs and running very slowly (<140bpm hr) think it'll fit well with my current mental/physical state in terms of my running.

My running is coming back.
Everything fucking hurts though.
Must need a brighter coloured shoe.Tempted to treat myself to an inov-8 elite race vest. For the coming winter running. Carry a bit more kit. I simply don't trust my legs anymore.

It's always shit when runing seems like a chore - You'll get over it soon HB. At least you've got a plan and sound optimistic about it.

@Greenbank Did you get into Brighton marathon?
-
• #11795
Didn't apply, awaiting news on charity place for London (should find out in a week or two).
-
• #11796
Ah OK, seem to remember saying you might enter. I just got in on the re-opened entry.
My first marathon. Daunting.
-
• #11797
I was in for the Brighton re-opening, sitting staring at the registration wondering if i should run it the week after manchester...
-
• #11798
nice one, its a brilliant marathon, loads of support and infrastructure without the high number of tw@ts that you get in London trying to win the race in the first 500m
gutted that its 2 weeks before Mallorca 70.3 so its a terrible idea to do it for me, so I'm sitting on my hands at the moment!

There was some chat about the Trailscape series last year - did anyone do any of the races? I'm thinking of doing the upcoming one in Newport (Essex, not Wales).

My girlfriend wants us to do the Winter Run for Cancer Research as it's on her birthday http://winterrunseries.co.uk/ £40 entry each seems a bit steep, although I'd care less if a significant proportion was going to Cancer Research. Anyone any idea how these get shared out, I seem to remember stories of cycling events where nothing goes to the charity?
My girlfriend uses a scalpel to remove the hard skin from her feet. Have to be careful not to go too far though!
