I saw some kid with amphibian sock type trainers. look naff!

I nailed 8k last night, got quicker on the way around and loved every step!
after running in the cold dark nights, in too many ill fitting layers with nothing but the voices in my head, i got my act together and charged the portable music player that will shuffle. A warped urban jungle sound track supplied by the much loved Flying Lotus turned me into a futuristic sci fi warrior, part man part machine, striding through the waste land that is west london, i took this vision further and have refused to eat or shit as robots do not eat and shit, and i have only since oiled my parts and gone online for a software upgrade download.

  • I prefer the wildman raised by wolves fantasy. Charging through the mountains on the scent of some unfortunate deer.

I alway injure myself warming down at the park, trying to lick my own balls though.

  • I like to pretend I can run. it's quite amusing.

  • just in from the friday penance run, and after the cautious wheezy walk/run wednesday style version. Surprised myself by running the whole 3 and a bit k without stopping, apart from the it may be sunny outside, but its still a bit nippy in the mornings, my chest needs a hit on the inhaler, thirty sec walk...

Whilst running kept thinking to myself, maybe I need to stop now, but didn't feel like, it. Knot in left calf was minimal, so just kept going, when I got to halfway decided to do it all, and then did. Nice feeling. Don't feel too shattered either. Maybe all the cycling has done me some good.

So now its running the full 3 and a bit k everytime. Gonna keep that up for a couple of weeks, then do two loops to get the distance upto 6k. Feel quite confident now about putting in for a 5k at the beginning of june..

  • Corny, I'll enter a 5k with you. I think we're around the same level at this point. I've been doing 3.5k runs this week. Going to edge up to 4 tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be doing 5k in a couple of weeks.

  • corny sounds like you're over the hump dude. once you can just keep going without forcing yourself to walk until you get to the point where you're ready to finish running it's just a case of then running for a bit longer each week.

if you find a decent 5k let me know. I'd be up for running it too.

  • que? what is this off kerb calf stretch of which you speak?

i do this one, which i find eases off the knot nicely..

please note not a picture of me..

this reminds of that youtube vid of those guys all demonstrating their best humpy time moves on an unfortunate footstool*

*to avoid confusion changed this from my original "ottoman" and also my second attempt at clarification which was "pouf".

  • who you calling a pouf?

    get in greasy!

  • I don't get it. 10k on Weds afternoon and since then I have had a slight twinge in the right knee when walking. Another 10 just now and no pain whatsoever, in fact all pain has gone...

  • ....and buy some proper running shoes.

Have to disagree with this... I have run in Asics/NB's for years and had wierd soreness... not muscles, just achey legs hips, back... they alter the natural gait which doesnt make sense to me. The minimal Nikes solved all of this... getting slightly sore heels on weeks wehre i put in more miles though, so need to address that.

Have a go at your local Parkrun (there's one in Brockwell park - timed 5k run, every saturday, free!

  • Oh yeah, I ran the Brighton Marathon today. It was really really fucking hot, and the sun was relentless.

Had to throw the planned target / pace out the window and just tried to finish. 4:23

  • parkrun ftw

tough day to run a marathon yesterday, well done.

  • good luck y'all in the London marathon next weekend.
praying for cooler weather and sunshine..
so glad i'm not doing it this year :)

  • dommy, saw that parkrun, yeah will probably do that, close to home, early morning, running on grass to save the knees, full of win..

congrats mate. i'm in awe of anyone capable of getting through a marathon to be honest.

  • i'm doing the Madrid Marathon at the weekend, forecast is 20 degrees, how hot was it in Brighton this weekend?

  • Just shy of 10k this morning (9.7) Run commute.
around 50mins which is ok with a bag full on the back...
hopefully be able to do it tmw and the next day, but we'll see!
Kinda enjoyed it. no tunes, and my calves are pinging at the minute.

Well done mate me too, stupidly hot. Only strengthened the addiction though. Back next year?

I think it was 21/22 and relentlessly sunny which was the worst bit, felt like my head was being baked.

Going to start entering the ballot for London, not sure about Brighton again.

  • Just ran my first 5k (in probably 5 years, and even then, only ever on treadmills in the gym - and I've put on probably 30-40lbs since then). Was only supposed to go 4.5, but felt fine at that point so just kept going. Probably not the best of ideas, as I'm a big guy and my legs may explode.

The time is nothing to brag about (33.03), but I'm pretty chuffed.

  • Finally did a track session with the club last night, inhaling grass (felt like) and wondering why my throat and breathing was crap despite taking meds beforehand. Good session but really need to stay away from all things plant or get stronger allergy meds.

Hills Thursday - hate them but looking forward to it.

  • Hmmm, now want to run another marathon, didn't think that would happen again....
