  • Shit, that sucks Ed! GWS.

I came here to moan that I pulled a muscle in my bum 8km into a HM yesterday, which meant I spent a long long time hobbling along clutching my backside. But I shall take solace in the fact that my bum isn't broken, at least.

  • Lynchman?

  • Anyone recommend an incline board or are they all much of a muchness? Calfs are particularly tight at the moment. Cheers

  • ^ would heel drops on the stairs help?

  • Probably but my stairs have a bit of edging on them that I'm concerned would eventually come away if I consistently did that.

  • And you don't have access to any other steps anywhere?

  • I'm going to take a couple of weeks off running due to tendinitis mentioned earlier and also get some better arch support (shall I?). I wear neutral trainers (ASICS GEL-EXCEL33) that have lowish cushioning, shall I go inserts or new trainers?

I don't really know what I'm doing and this being the internet I'd like some advice that I can both blindly follow and regurgitate as fact to anyone who as much as meets my eyes.

I'll also be stretching yada yada

  • Steps are a rare sighting these days.

  • er...have you been living under a stone. They reformed!

  • ^ zing!

  • I probably do but, in my experience, the more effort you have to expend to do these things, the less likely it is you'll actually get round to it regularly.

  • I would like to buy a small running-related present for someone, about a tenner. Any suggestions? I was thinking of a voucher but it's a bit boring.

  • Stuff I use for running that costs about £10:-

    • A buff (useful in summer for soaking up sweat or dunking in water to keep cool, useful in winter for keeping chill off face/ears first thing) - non-kl compliant though
    • LED arm/wrist/ankle straps (found it useful for running in Richmond Park after dark)

Posh running socks (in the spirit of stuff they would like but generally wouldn't buy for themselves)?

  • I find posh socks a real treat.

  • for a tenner I'd go with a running book.

born to run (or natural born heroes) by chris mcdougall
running with the kenyans by someone else
What I think about when I think about running by murakami.

    all good reads.

  • Talking of Born to Run... anyone want a copy? Mine is on the way to the charity shop unless someone wants to PM me their address so I can put it in the post instead?

  • Dibs (and I'll forward it on to the next person once I've read it).

  • 2nd pls

  • Don't forget Feet in the Clouds.

Running with the Kenyans is Adharand Finn.

If you want some pop psychology with your running get First to Last by Charlie Spedding

  • Two mile race tonight, 38 whole seconds slower than last time, had a terrrrrrrrible run.

On to the next one eh.

  • This Ultra is going to be 62 miles of fun fun fun. Achilles have really flared up in the last week, Thursday I was down to a slow limp so not good.

Been icing like mad and they have improved in the last couple of days, so I've got my fingers crossed but as it's on Saturday I don't think it's going to be much fun and might end up being a very long walk.

Anyone got any experience of Kino tape ? It's something I've never thought could work but I was given some yesterday and they taped up my achilles. It might just be the placebo effect of having something hugging your achilles, or just good timing as they were getting better anyway, or just my desperation for something to work :D but! And I hate to admit it, it does seem to be doing something :)

  • Run in to work to be extended to HM distance tomorrow (trying to do this once a month, and getting it out of the way early in the month).

I'm guessing I'm not going to enjoy it, just have to remember not to set off at usual 10k (sloth-like) pace otherwise I get back home from my usual 10k loop feeling rather grim with 11.6km left to do and have to run past plenty of tempting Boris Bike stations.

  • Royles Run50.

  • Thanks for all the gift ideas! :)
