I wouldn't be suprised if it was muddier than last years Southerns to be honest.

20 miles done this morning, first 10 miles were o.k then the freezing wind and hail arrived. Wrecked now after racing yesterday as well.

I've tried to go for a run three times since October and given up every time. Going to try and force my body back into it this week. Any tips for people who used to be quite happy running 12 miles but have lost all muscle and gained a stone of flab in the last few months?
I do this EVERY winter. Next year I am definitely going to do something about it before being in OK shape feels like an impossibly distant dream.

Nice run Hatbeard. Good pace that. Was checking it out on Strava.
I did 5km yesterday. On sheet ice most of the way. Which handly prevented any overstriding. Could have, and wanted to, do much much more. But I was careful. Achilles felt OK. Sore today. But not in a worrying way.
I've decided on some epically Bright New shoes to fix this. Bit more support and cushioning than my Skora. But apparantly still quite flexi.
I've realised that all the tri's that I could manage the swim in. Have really short runs. Which means running fast. Piss. There really should be a 1/2km swim, 200km ride, 20km run triathlon for us old types. Pretty sure one has a 8.5km ride WTF?. Not sure I can be arsed even taking my wetsuit off for 8.5km.

At last a sub-20min 5k!
19:35. Gonna have to work hard to beat that. Bodes well for a few sprint tri's (sorry) I have lined up for the year though.

Excellent work! Was is basically a run along Brighton prom, or were there any hills?

Go right back to basics, run walk schedules if needed e.g couch to 5k plan.

@pifko the only up and down bit is the out and back to the marina as you go up and over the cliff side along the main road. the other half on the front is just headwind city, in both directions because fuck science.
@tricitybendix I agree with @rhb just do walk run until you get back up to being about to do a few miles without stopping/walking. I had to do the same when I got into London in 2013 after 3 years off, it comes back quickly but it definitely sucks for a week or two.

11 days, no running.
Rode my bike for the first time in months, as I thought - why not? I stopped, so that I could concentrate on running. If I'm not running, I should be fine on the bike.
Leg still b0rked.
So much for resting up...

It's all gone quiet here. Post National xc depression?
Did some laps of battersea park this evening. It's nice and flat there. I recommend it.
Really looking forward to some easy days until Sundays long run. Although I might give Gunnersbury Parkrun a whirl in Saturday.

had flu since last after my race on sunday. feel like shit still. missing one of the biggest weeks of training on my plan.
just wanna go run but my chest is buggered and if i'm not having a painful coughing fit every 2 minutes i'm producing enough mucus to give fungus the boogeyman a run for his money. ffs

^ get well soon.
Run home last night was ok. Hoping to avoid the lurgies that everyone has for a Parkrun / Fell Run double header 7th / 8th March.

I haven't run since Monday as I've done a mystery injury to my leg and have to shuffle up and down stairs sideways on. I have no idea what is wrong, it feels like a bruise but there's nothing there. It's really annoying.

Pacing at the race your pace half marathon on Saturday anyone here doing it? I'll be the dork trying to run a 1:30 with a giant flag behind me!
Stupidly picked yesterday to start running with no socks as it was only supposed to be an easy 35 minutes, and have taken all the skin of the ends of my big toes, it's going to take a decent size spoonful of HTFU on Saturday now!

I ran last night and am now fully on the unwell train.

I'm about to start running after injuring my thumb to the degree that i can't do any other activity, no cycling allowed because I can't hold handlebars as the brace restricts all movement.
I signed up for a park run and im looking for pointers. Im pretty fit, I play hockey twice a week and 5-a-side once a week and cycle my short commute with at least one or two lengthier cycles a month. I reckon a 25 minute 5k should be my target for tomorrow because i have no idea how fast/slow i'll be. Any advice?
How very dare you! I was in the same pub (Assembly Rooms), handsoming it up to the max. Nice to drink a pub dry by 6pm though, wasn't it?
Was a good race, my bud was disappointed by being outside of the top 10 (about 18th), I was disappointed that the Brownlees weren't there (as had been promised by another mate), got a spot before the last downhill and had good fun cheering the last finishers round to the end.
Not anywhere near as muddy as previous years, and only 12km, but still gutted as having missed out on running.
You guys think about the mess you left - I'm the one who has to wash the dog every day after he rolls around in the schuck you left behind...
