  • 6 of us out on last Tuesday training of the year tonight.
    Quality.
    Broadstone quarter.thursday might enter of day but will have been skanking to reggae til 2 so prolly just spectate.

  • No running since I last ran, winter bugs can gtf.

    Fingers crossed make it for a stroll around Parkrun on Sat.

  • Last night was my first short run since my hip injury flared up a month ago. 2014 has been a poor year for running. Must do better in 2015.

    Time to rest for a couple of weeks.

  • First run today after buggering my knee in September. Three miles, and it was horrible. Nothing works right! And need to loose about 9kg.

  • 20k of Cornish coastline in the driving wind and rain this afternoon.

    I don't know which was more fun - leaning sideways running down slippery cliff paths, or smiling at the fully clobbered up miserable walkers.

    Shorts & t-shirt, obvs - Icebreaker merino still crushing it in all weathers.

  • Slow 20 something at Parkrun, muddy course so ran in trail shoes, xc spikes would've been welcome in places, they'll be out next Sat all being well for rd4 of xc league.

  • Have put on about a stone since breaking my collarbone so think it's time to start running to work. I lost my Polar HRM ages ago. Would like another one but running specific might be useful - any recommendations for something fairly simple? I only really used the Polar to remind myself that I should be running at a pace that put my heart rate higher than walking and to work out how much cake I could eat, but I guess running speed might be useful...

  • Forerunner 110 is pretty basic.

    Only gripe about the 110 is that it doesn't give you your current speed, it only displays HR, distance and average speed when you're recording. When not recording it does give current speed but not distance (obviously). If you set it to auto-lap every 1km you will get those 1km splits to give you an idea of your recenpace.

    The average speed is still good enough for me although I tend to run by feel (or glances at HR) anyway. I try not to look at average speed as it just makes me want to push harder which is not what I need to be doing.

    Parkrun PB today (only I forgot my barcode). Will have to wait to see what the official time is as GPS gives one thing (which is reliable), when uploaded Strava gives yet another (wildly inaccurate) time.

  • Amazing run in the Scottish hills yesterday. In one hour, we had snow, sleet, hail, gale force winds and finished in bright sunshine. Suitably attired, of course.

  • I suspect I am the anti-KL, running as I did today in base layer, running T-shirt, and jacket, merino hat and gloves, although I did wear shorts.

  • Got out for my first run of the year today, a gentle 5.25k in 30 minutes. I felt as if I could have ran a lot further but probably not much faster.

    One of my new year's resolutions is to complete a half-marathon in under 1h30 - my previous quickest being 1h33 about 10 years ago - and I've signed up for the Richmond Half in March. A long way to go to get to that standard.

  • Joining you on that, layers ftw.

  • How will you get an official time if you didn't have your barcode? When I've forgotten mine I've not got a time.

  • If you know your rough time you find yourself in the results as "unknown" then guesstimate based in how far behind/ahead you were of those who finished with you - usually accurate to 5s and probably still more accurare than Strava.

  • Oh I see - I've done that, I just thought there might be a special way of getting a time that I didn't know about. I got a plastic barcode card thing for xmas so hopefully no more forgetting for me!

  • Yep, nothing more than that. Person in front was officially timed at 26:34 and I was a few seconds behind them. Very happy as my previous PB was 26:53 and today was the boggiest I'd seen the course.

    • longjohns + shorts

    • wooly hat
    • wooly socks
    • gloves

    for the last couple of runs. Temp has been sub zero though, pretty windy and wet

  • Also on clothes, I discovered the 1001 mile wear marker in my socks today.

    Time to replace. Or darn.
