10 is shorts, vests, trainers only. Ratings drop according to what other clothes are worn. Some peripherals do not affect rating e.g. glasses, iPods, HRMs.

Socks?? Are socks allowed? Our men's captain was in shorts, vest, spikes at this weekend's XC. I swapped the spikes for trail shoes and added socks, a thin mesh cap and prescription glasses for my ensemble.
In training I admit to being a bit softer... most of my recent runs I've gone out wearing a rather natty pair of pedophile leggings and a long sleeve T-shirt.
Also, London Mara place confirmed yesterday - woot!

The sock issue was covered a month or so ago when kl shared an update with us:
In important breaking news, socks are the latest addition to the list of unacceptable winter running clothing.
He was later able to clarify the situation:
I was surprised as you, but I referred the matter to the Hardness Committee, and they said, 'Yes of course it includes all socks it's not fucking Norway there isn't any snow in the ground they're feet not fucking hands that do fucking dishes'. Pretty unequivocal really, though there was talk of exceptions being made for runs upwards of 2 hrs when winter arrives.

I went out on run commute prepared for the weather bomb, ended up removing hat and gillet during the run and completed a pleasant steady 10 miles in about 1h17.
The weather bomb never went off, but the Mersey was quite high so it may have hit Stockport instead or something.

Cycling shorts added added out necessity for this morning's run:-

So, -1 for socks and -1 for windstopper gilet (which was completely unnecessary) and -0.5 for cycling shorts.

I have dense woolen hiking socks that I wear most days. When the Norwegian Winter kicks in. I just keep them on for running. Probably breaking all the rules. Fuk da police.

I usually wear Skins leggings as I found they seem to help reduce injuries, "no science". Forgot to bring them to work before running home and realised... 1. I may not need them. 2. I do not have runners legs and my ancient Asics are awful.

Hello, some advice please.
The last couple of weeks I've been suffering a bit with knee pain.
It appears down the outside of the (right) knee and while painful during the run it's semi tolerable, but once stopped it becomes bad enough to make it very difficult to put any weight on. Last week it only got bad once I'd got home, but this week a stop at a traffic light completely crippled me for a few minutes until I could limp home.
It happened last Thursday ( 2 x 4 miles), but then this Tuesday I was able to run (5 miles, fast) with no pain. This Thursday was when it happened again and it's left me with a bit of swelling on the outside of the knee.
The only difference from the Thursdays to the Tuesday is that the two Thursday runs I was running with a (reasonably heavy) backpack.
I'm also wondering if it's overuse related (I've run about 300 more miles this year than in any other year and recently started cycling to work), or potentially related to my crash a few weeks ago. I'm also running a lot more on road than before (necessity rather than choice).
My first thought was probably ITB so I've been foam rollering with some effect, any other internet diagnoses? I won't hold anything against anyone, promise.

Best get checked out by a local physio. Could well be ITB but no point taking that treatment & recovery route if you're not 100% sure.

Rest Ice Compression Elevation should not make things worse.
So many potential causes, meniscus tear, IT band, bursitis, poor stability around the joint, etc a proper diagnosis is worthwhile.

Went out to do 9k, missed a turn on Putney Heath and so I ended up doing 10k (first one in 10 years probably). 57:37 so a long way to go, but it's a start.

@Sainsburys_Ed - is there anywhere in North Cornwall that is flat enough to do 1 / 2 mile intervals / repeats?
I suppose I could do the Camel trail
easy - 4 miles @ 9:00 min/mile pace. running moorgate to clapham north probs.
