  • I keep checking to see if the guide on my VM TiVo box has updated so that I can set it to record.

Start watching at 5.30 am, fast forward the adverts and I'll catch up by the time home schooling begins.

  • Having a bat. I get the feeling this won't be worth getting up for...

  • Burns you plum. Terrible shot.

  • Sigh

  • come on india fuck em up

  • The way root went from 10 to 30 when the bowling changed was lovely.

  • Brilliant stuff from both sides here, swinging towards England’s favour because of Sibley and Root’s patience. Difficult to see how they’ll complete 4 innings at this rate though.

  • God I love Joe Root

  • 40 runs put on whilst I enjoy a very leisurely breakfast, nice.

Teams just going off for tea and batsmen leaving kit on the boundary rope, Covid protocol?

  • Root usually leaves his stuff in the sun to help it dry out.

  • Matches tend to speed up significantly in the subcontinent as the pitch deteriorates and potentially reverse swing becomes a factor.

  • Lots of players do it, not sure if a new thing but don't think a covid thing

  • The high shot over the stadium looking out to the Indian Ocean makes that all look a bit crap. Not wanting to go there at all. More than happy sitting here on a foggy day in February.

  • I love Sibley's pace of batting, proper opener speed.

  • I'm impressed that he bats with utmost caution,
    yet,
    has the concentration, and ability,
to crush the 9 bad balls he has faced for boundaries.

  • come on india fuck em up

    india pls

  • England have been crying out for someone who can hang around and see off the new ball for years, was Strauss ever replaced by someone notable? Without cook as well has left us very vulnerable.

  • Yep, at one time 'England Opener' status was as guaranteed as 'Watford manager'.

  • These are some filthy shots from Rooty

  • Given the 4-0 tonking India gave England on the last Tour,
what is a safe first innings total?
    700+?

  • Brilliant from the Guardian OBO -

Root plays a late cut off Shahbaz – so late that it could almost be a UK government response to the coronavirus. Except that it’s beautiful.

  • Rooooooooot

  • What can you say, absolute masterclass.

  • Just the new ball to see off,
and tomorrow's opening spell from India's frontline bowlers,
and this pair are set fair.

  • N’awww
