If you use Gmail, you can put '+crc' between the end of your email and the @ symbol and it'll think it's a new email, but will still end up in your inbox.
Can you ELI5?

If your gmail address is muppetteer@gmail.com you could use muppetteer+crc@gmail.com as an alternative e-mail.

Haha sure.
So, if your email was muppetteer@gmail.com, and you had already registered to buy something from CRC, so didn't qualify for the new user discount you could sign up again using the email muppetteer+crc@gmail.com and it would both register as a new email on their system and still arrive in the inbox of your good old muppetteer@gmail.com email.
You can do the same with other variations, such as muppetteer+lfgss@gmail.com or muppetteer+beaker@gmail.com and they should all work, ending up in the same inbox.

For what it's worth, doing that usually results in a totally new customer account with that retailer rather than just tricking the discount code checker or whatever. For Wiggle, go nuts, but as someone who has worked in ecomm for small businesses for a while it's fucking annoying. My personal brand of payback for that is that loyal customers get early access, better discounts in promo times, etc, and this is based on spend and profitability. Anyone playing the new email trick will never end up on my good list, and neither will anyone who returns loads of stuff or only buys things from clearance. Its amazing how many customers I have come across who think they've played a huge part in building [brand] up to whatever it is, but in fact may have cost the business money overall.

You can also put dots anywhere in your email address to create a new email address which still delivers to you.
lfgss@gmail.com = l.fgss@gmail.com = lfg.ss@gmail.com etc
Edit - teach me not to refresh a page I've had open a while before replying.

Quite a few systems are wise to that though and strip out the dots and pluses on gmail.

Incidentally, the bloke I bought it from actually lived in Scampton, which is, of course, Lincoln's version of Biggin Hill.
The local pub is called the Dambusters. Made me want to move back up north.
