I've got some 37mm kenda kwests on my dad-mobile an they've been excellent.
These are 28mm, but for £2.99 they're good value for the hybrid/commuter.

Shimano 105 5800 Groupset is £299 and more black friday deals

• #2909
WTF is going on with the price of that?? I purchased a 105 5800 groupset over 3 years ago for £299. And yes I'm sure, I've just checked my old order on Wiggle... does the price for these really not drop over time as they are not brand new anymore?
-
• #2910
Agreed. Not suggesting it's not a good/great deal but the expectation about price drop over time (esp with R7000/R8000) is sadly misplaced

Shimano and others have been hit by the price of the pound rising plus inflation. It's in some ways cheaper than 3 years ago
-
• #2912
Sure, the same way that people are earning less than 3 years ago... the rising pound problem might be solved soon though.

• #2913
the rising pound problem might be solved soon though.
With the collapse of the pound?!
-
• #2914
Nope, fx is worse and the pound has taken a pounding (yes...) against all major currencies... And it'll just get worse!
-
• #2915
Agree, new 2019 Shimano AM parts will be much pricier here in the UK

There was a weird glut around a year after release when shimano sets were really cheap, then they popped up. IIRC 105 went up to ~£500. I got a unused Ultegra set for £300 and Hydro groupset -cranks for £300 also. Was amazing at the time, evven more-so now
-
• #2917
So in terms of the 'discount' given it is more generous than 3 years ago, even if still the same price, right? More expensive to us, yes.
Anyway, my bad for starting, Brexit thread >>>>>

• #2918
Maybe its all to prop up the delayed r7000 prices . Everyone seems to be flogging 6800 still.
-
• #2919
@SwissChap paid 299 then and it's 299 now, so it's lower now in base currency because of the usual discount applied for prior years stock and not because of FX movement.
7th Nov 2015: GBP300 @ 185.35 = JPY55,605
3rd Nov 2018: GBP300 @ 146.89 = JPY44,065If we take the above JPY as the cost of the set and the FX remained at 2015 level, you'll be paying 237.74 and not 299. So it is more expensive now... ;)

Jeeeesus. Well. Turns out my 'old' (but not much used) 105 groupset might still be worth something now after all. I haven't really been following the price of groupsets in the last two years or so as I can only have one bike in use at the moment and it happens to be fixed... so I assumed an old 105 groupset would not even really register anymore.
Well I'm very much hoping it won't come to a collapse, but I'm struggling to see the value soar over the next few years.
Mid-June 2015 actually, but yeah, close enough :)
