  • Well done Jonny.

Think this will be me - http://www.beardteamusa.org/categories/sideburns.html

  • Stevo -some inspiration for your face topiary

I knew i'd been growing my beard for the last 2 months for a reason

this sounds like a lot of fun, i wish i was around for it

  • Ride Update

    hello old sport,

finally got the final route map now. had a bit of bother sorting out the end point but it's all tickety-boo now. thank you so much for your patience, much appreciated i'm sure.

    see full details here

the ride meets at hanover square before 2pm; a respectable hour that allows for a spot of lunch beforehand, i'm sure you'll agree. now look here though, do try to be prompt. at 2pm, we'll roll down to savile row, where the kind gents from h huntsman & sons will be officially starting the ride off. it's a 22.5 mile ride across london, avoiding most beastly hills and mostly away from heavy traffic. we will be on main roads though, so do be careful, won't you?

we'll take in some super sights along the way, stopping at geo f. trumpers on jermyn street who have agreed to adjudicate the moustache prize, at the bank of england for the much anticipated dapper chap and elegant lady prizes (and providing a lovely opportunity for a group photo), then popping in to see messrs. jos and keith at tour de ville who have arranged for a spot of tea and a rapha sample sale. we'll also judge the most enviable period bicycle at their establishment. the ride concludes at the bethnal green working men's club, where the fine chaps at hendrick's gin have kindly offered to treat us to a gin and tonic or two (gratis, of course).

i hate to be a bore, and i'm sure you'll be looking positively dashing, but please do make an effort with your outfit; we've made the effort to lay on a jolly decent day for you.

the ride is free of course, but i do hope you'll consider purchasing one of our lovely spoke card for £2. this will also get you a ticket for our tombola draw for some absolutley spiffing prizes. the monies collected will benefit the worthy fellows at bikes4africa, a charity that refurbishes bicycles and ships them to Africa where they are donated to African secondary schools, and loaned to students with the longest walks to school. a jolly decent cause, i'm sure you'll agree.

a few things you might want to consider packing in your saddlebag:

    1. a lock
    2. bike lights (perhaps leave the dynamo lights at home though, yes?)
    3. a pump, spanner and spare tube, in case of any ghastlies
    4. some pocket money
    5. a hip flask of sustenance

i hope you agree, it promised to be a lovely day out. looking forward to seeing you there.

    yours truly,

    lord teddy of holdsworth

  • That is some distance! But manageable at a chap#s pace no?!

  • An absolute ripper of a route Teddy old boy. My legs are twitching in anticipation already!

  • Splendid.

  • @teddy, thought you were intending to start and finish central ?

  • @teddy, thought you were intending to start and finish central ?

that was the initial plan. but hendricks is renting us a venue for the end of the ride, and the bethnal green working men's club is a great space. sorry if it's a hassle for westies.

  • grrrrrrr, bloody east end, grumble.

  • That looks ace Teddy - happy to balance off the east ending against GIN.

Souths folks - anyone want to meet up to roll to the start together?

  • I rode home wearing my tweed jacket the of an evening last week. I was roasting! I will envy those in waistcoats.

I was pondering the same thing on my way home last night Ru, what about somewhere in Borough? Appropriate architecture and all that. Does the Globe open at Saturday lunchtimes? Or the Market Porter so we can load up on Monmouth coffee ?

  • any westies fancy meeting up for beverages early??

  • excellent work.

  • i have to say, i'm REALLY excited about the moustaches...gin ftw!

  • Any easties want to meet up at the Prince Arthur near London Fields first?
