  • I have also cancelled meetings with clients when I couldn't bring my bike into their office.

    Fantastic

  • Harrods is for tourists anyway. Fortnum & Mason is far superior.

really? i never found their menswear/furniture/pets/stereos/lingerie/jewelry to be quite as good.

  • Loving the tags on this thread... good way to handle the situation too!

  • yes, do it! you may be surprised at the response

"What you doing in my fucking shop? Prince Phillip send you?"

  • Pisses me off when people/shops won't let you bring in the bike. Bike tyres touch the same surfaces that shoes touch, so what's the problem?

    Pushchairs!

I'd never thought about it until last week when some poor sod got unceremoniously kicked out of Jessops on New Oxford St (acres of empty floor space in there) - "hey, you can't bring that in here", "what, even if i'm buying something?", "no", "ok, i'll go somewhere else then"

Wish I'd followed him when I was still waiting to be served 10 minutes later

  • Cyclist do smell though. I would not allow one into a shop of mine.

  • atleast you can take skateboards into alot of places in london as they seem so uncommon here.

where they road or mtb shoes btw?

  • Harrods have been doing that kind of things for years - one day they wouldn't let me in because I had a courier bag - look on thre bright side - if you don't go to harrods - you don't get to see probably the most cringe making sculpture in the world

don't look if you are squimish

the one on the far left in the grey reminds me slightly of the spawn of satan. oh wait he is...

  • Fugging fuggers...

  • If they think you're a tourist likely to spend hundreds of £ in there they'll let you in wearing anything.

My granddad left me a Gold Omega Seamaster when he died, if I was in the area and I had 30 mins to kill I used to love going to shops like Harrods wearing jeans and a t-shirt and hovering around the jewellery/watches area and trying to get some attention. Then someone would notice the watch and come running over to see if I was OK. Sure it wasn't worth that much compared to how much some people splash on a watch, but it was enough for a snooty salesmen to think, "oh bugger, I may have just lost a big sale."

  • go in there, courier bag, beard, bike, all the shit.

as they throw you out, pull your UK passport from your bag and say "oh, well I don't suppose Mr Al-Fayed would have wanted this special delivery from the IPS then"

then pull your pants down and do a little poo in the doorway.

    Doesn't make sense.

  • What you mean, the 1st sentence and the rest aren't related.

  • I'm just shit at recalling stories too. You wait until I'm 70, I'll be boring people like a pro then.

  • with regard to OP

    Evans, Bikehut, BLB…

  • Do people really expect to have their bikes allowed in a shop?

  • Do people really expect to have their bikes allowed in a shop?

Yep. Kurt Geiger on the Kings Road - went in to buy some shoes for my wife, not only did they allow the bike in, but one of the assistants held it for me (ho ho), while I was paying for the shoes (presumably to avoid it touching any of their displays). But done with much grace.

  • The other day I was at the pub and needed to go buy some rizla so I cycled to the nearest petrol station and attempted to walk in with my bike (forgot the lock), the man behind the counter shouted at me and told me to get out the shop and come back without the bike. I asked him nicely and he still said no. I asked him nicely again and said I was only buying rizla.
He then asked what bike it was and I said that it was a Mercian... he apologised and let me in and his co-worker helped me back out the shop.

  • I was not trying to take the bike in, just my good self.

I pointed out that my sidi dominators had a full rubber sole.

  • I was not trying to take the bike in, just my good self.

    You should next time though....

  • oh my shitting jesus, is that dodi and di with the words 'innocent victims' written underneath?

    vomits on cock

    Hah!
I just read this thread hoping that no-one had chimed in with this, because I was going to!
(but only to be funny, I actually like those shops, because the people therein have never failed to be nice to me)

  • Aquascutum

I rode up to their cash desk on the ground floor (only about 30m inside the shop) and they refused to serve me until I took the bike outside and locked it up.

    Bastards.

PS: This actually happened, but seriously... I'd already got to the cash desk, they should've just served me.

If your tyres weren't dirty I'd have given you a discount!

  • I've always thought that 'Aquascutum' sounds filthy...
