  • interested in this route - can we get some feedback plz

  • Giving it a go this very Friday, will report back

  • Just made this combining the Beeching Cuts, Cuckoo trail and Brighton-Guildford rail trail. Any fun stuff I'm missing? https://ridewithgps.com/routes/32954310

  • You could carry on on the SDW from Alfriston, similarly take the North Downs Way past Shere.
    Good route though

  • May steal this for a future ride. Thanks for the work.

Recently I've been working on a pre-work 50km loop from Putney. I think I'd like to add a hill to it. It is great for a thoughtless smash though.

    Thoughts?

Here's an attempt at a short gravel outing for the summer evenings:

  • Can't see the route as it's private, but there are plenty of hills to ride south of Leatherhead

  • To go against the off road/gravel theme, I am trying to sort out a single speed friendly route starting somewhere around Totteridge. Several mates have left London in the past year and we are planning to all ride out to meet there. 3 from London, 1 from Watford, 1 from St albans.

Anyone help me out? Im sure I can put something together but it would be good to include recommendations from anyone who knows the area better.

  • Any recommendation for an interesting ~3 hour road loop from Angel? I've done Lee valley a few times, so looking for other options...

    Cheers

  • That looks perfect for some inspiration, thanks mate!

North and East routes are similar. No one actually rides east.

  • BESPOKE CYCLING ROUTES!

Those are literally the most ridden routes North-East of London

Here's one from my heavy rotation: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29698809

  • Thanks both! Some great ideas here....

  • maybe a long shot....

Has anyone ridden Cambridge - Norwich (or vice versa) utilising as much off road as possible?

planning ahead and thinking of continuing @giofox 's wonderful London to Cambridge off road route to visit friends in Norwich.

  • @platypus is your guy - see here

    Also, would totally ride it.

I've also tweaked my London-Cambridge-London offroad route, planning to have a go this Sunday, hopefully not too muddy. (It's June FFS!)

  • Thanks mate. Was intending to ride your route to Cambridge to start my ride but of course the weather got in the way!

  • Wow, brilliant, Thank you Giofox!

  • Rode the route above yesterday and it's insanely good, highly recommended. Two rerouting spots and a long-ish segment on road to break down, already changed in the route linked above, but really smooth aside from that. The Roman road to Cambridge is beautiful.

  • nice! Whats the ratio of tarmac to off road?

  • Very low, I'd say 10-15% tarmac in total, you can upload the route to Komoot to see wht is says.
What's even better are the long stretches offroad, not just hundreds of 100m segments pieced together.

  • you can upload the route to Komoot to see wht is says

Have not experimented w/ Komoot yet - didn't know it had this feature. Cheers

  • Komoot says 21%, but it felt less

  • Anyone got any decent routes near Lyon in France? I'll ride the Vercors for a day but I don't want to have to travel more than 60-90 mins to start a ride so places like Telegraphe are out.

  • Thoughts on a "friendly" London > Brighton (well, Ditchling in this case) route? I'm trying to put something together that my partner, who has not done a tonne of miles this year, won't be discourage by. But I also don't want to be on busy roads all day.

This uses Garmin's popular routes thing (with a bit of finessing to avoid some meters), but I'm not really sure what that really means when talking about London to Brighton. Could just be weekend warriors smashing out their rides as quickly as possible.

  • The route from last year's LondonBrighton ride went through like this:
Mitcham - Carshalton - Just East of Oaks Park
Chipstead - Gatton - Albury Manor
Nutfield - Burstow - Turners Hill
Chiddinglye Wood - Ardingly - Lindfield
Haywards Heath - Following Ditchling Rd to Ditchling Common
