  • Bollocks.

Download GPX track. Never had a single issue with the track.

  • You could come west of Charlwood too on the way out. But i don't think it'll make much difference, same sort of roads. Nice.

  • Was thinking of heading a bit further east on the way out and use the ditchling devil part http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-888/ for this and then using the part you've used to come down to the ditchling - use this to get back...

    Bloody Garmins.

  • anyone got anything around the faversham area?

  • looking to do a longer route back from work so I can get some midweek miles in, would be riding out from feltham area, so thinking I could incorporate a loop down to windsor/box hill or surrey hills route and then head back into south london (clapham/Brixton), anyone know any off the top of their head.

    Let me know..

  • Anyone have any routes that stretch up from London to Suffolk? I know suffolk pretty well, but not a safe way to get up that way by bike.... Looking to do 100 or so miles, happy to train back to London.

    Cheers!

Although its not as nice by day, its not particularly bad

  • Thanks man, was wondering about the Dynamo route for the first bit of the ride, or Ludd's route towards Cambridge. This would be early in the morning so maybe ok. Or I could wimp out and get the train a little way out of the big smoke

  • Fast train out to, say Colchester might be a better bet yeah

  • Oyster to Shenfield.

  • Thanks for the input - I might train to Colchester, then head out into the sticks from there :)

  • I hear the new London-Oxford-London is the 1 everybody's riding, a must do for Londoners.. lol :)

And gain awards in the process RRTY (1 in each calendar month), etc..

  • Am riding to Kent coast on Friday from Peckham and going to use Pilgrims Way from Gillingham to Ashford - seems to be mixed surfaces.

Are there any stretches I need to look out for/avoid if I'm on my road bike?

Did you do this, poots? I'm formulating a plan to do the same and would love to hear first hand experiences of it.

  • I fancy doing some riding after work, weekdays. I work in North London but because I live in the South I don't know much about what lies norfofdarivah.

What are the fastest, nicest ways to get to some lanes from Kings Cross, please? I can plagiarise the WNKR Potter's Bar route and possibly also the Chingford and Roydon ones, but what other hot tips for short, nice rides in the norf are there?

  • I don't know SE London too well so does anyone know a route that goes out of Herne Hill south-east that becomes "laney" quite quickly.

Looking to do about 20-30 miles so could be a loop or we could finish at a train station in Kent somewhere.

    Any help appreciated.

  • Head towards Crystal Palace from Herne Hill and then go down the big fast hill towards Elmer's End. Glorious Kent lanes will be directly south of you. Have a look at some of TricityBendix's recent routes in the Essex Afterworkers thread (these are now Kent Afterworkers, I haven't gone insane): https://www.lfgss.com/thread67502-39.html and maybe also search for the Ride of the Falling Leaves route on Strava - you won't want to use the whole thing but it can be cut short while still getting in lots of lane action.

  • Herne Hill -> Crystal Palace -> down Anerley Hill -> left at the traffic lights after Elmers End station -> right at the (massive) roundabout onto Upper Elmers End road keep going straight until you drop down Corkscrew Hill, straight across the roundabout at the bottom and you are on Layhams Road, you are now in the lanes, enjoy.

  • Can anyone reccomend anywhere in particular in the centre of the country for a nice weekend's riding? Would want to do between 50-80 miles a day a couple of days in a row without getting bored and camping in the middle. Initial thought was the national forest or something.

  • The centre of the country as in the middle of England? The midlands?

Around Shropshire is lovely, specifically Ironbridge and Bridgnorth. You could possibly get into Snowdonia too, by the end of the 2 days.

  • Yeah, somewhere between Leeds and Bournemouth! I'll have a look at that area, any particularly excellent pubs to sweeten the deal?

  • Sadly no. My only experience of the area was working for 2 weeks in a boarding school which was being used a summer camp for French kids.

  • Not sure if this is the right place to post. I'm after a ride for Saturday.

I usually ride out to Epping, but I'd like somewhere different. Probably South. Nice range of riding, nothing with too many crazy hills, mainly nice scenery and pleasant roads. Probably about 50-70km.

Ideally I'd like to jump on a short train or Overland from a North London / City station - like Finsbury Park, Kings X or Liverpool St. Ideally Finsbury Park though. I'm not adverse to riding through South London, but if there's a quick easy alternative to get somewhere nice I'd rather do that.

    Any suggestions?

Oh and also I have a fairly shit sense of direction.

  • You could do one of the TNRC (now WNKR) routes in Kent? The Otford and St. Mary Cray ones are nice. You get the train out from Victoria IIRC.

  • Cheers. I'll have a look.
