Come on, I came to this thread with good intent, recommended three great metal albums, shared links.
The first reply to that is you pointing out that one of them is known to you well already,
and showing me that i should have known that if I read the whole thread beforehand
by quoting all the posts for me. Well thank you. While you're right - in the time it took you to make that great post with all the quotes you might
have as well been constructive, and post something interesting yourself.
You might have as well said something along the lines of
"Uh, that Mastodon album has already been posted, but thanks for the fantastic link to the free .flac download of the Caligula's Horse album"I really don't get how many people on here enjoy pointing out to people that something has already been posted.
Yes it's annoying if it happens often, but it happens in internet forums,
because you can't expect anybody to read all posts of a thread before making a post. -

Come on. This is a thread on Heavy Metal. Posting an album released 3 months ago from a band who have had some not insignificant success over the past 8 years and proclaiming "New Album! Recommended!" Really? No fucking shit!
You Mastodon post was the equivalent of "Yeah I bought a fixie wixie! Hai guyzzzzz.....can I be cool too?"
It was politely pointed out that we were not unfamiliar with the album and your response was to be a sarcastic dick.
So yeah. Fuck you for your shitty attitude. You were called out for it, as you should be.
You are welcome to join the conversation but Rule #1 is "Don't be a dick." Follow rule #1 and you'll be fine.
Rule #2 - Dream Theater is NOT heavy metal. [/troll]

You're making yourself look pretty stupid, enjoy yourself.
-
• #680
I disagree. Dream Theater is definitely not heavy metal.

+1
You have no idea how disappointing it is when you hear the phrase "prog influenced metal" and instead of getting a de-tuned King Crimson you end up with some Dream Theatre nonsense.
Mike Portnoi (sp?), have some chevrons.

Dream Theatre is simply the BEST music to play 'Magic the Gathering' to...

• #683
Not Amon Amarth?

While you're right - in the time it took you to make that great post with all the quotes you might
have as well been constructive, and post something interesting yourself.Umm, at the same time I posted that I was discussing the merits of Sapim Laser and Sapim CX Ray spokes for a custom build, and also whether clear coat on 853 tubing would leave it exposed to rust.
There's multitasking, and multitasking.
I'm sorry that a fabulous metal album just hasn't been released this week. Feel free to point one out if I missed something.

So whose fist is this anyway is heavy metal, and just recently released?
I rest my case. -
• #694
I think you're missing the point. But whatever.
What are you bringing to the party that's NOT Dream Theater? Or do you have a DT track that might change some minds?

Yet another New Lamb of God track - (Audio only)

I also gave you Caligula's Horse,
no, it is also not 'heavy metal' in the strict sense.
Please do yourself a favour and check that album out anyway, they f*cking rock. -
• #697
There is no strict definition of heavy metal. That's part of the fun.
As for Caligula's Horse. I did give it a listen. Not my cup of tea though, but so is about 1/3 of the stuff posted here. Pushing the boundaries of the tea cup is also part of the fun.

Oh and by the way, Mike Portnoy left DT last September, and, frankly, the latest album
(with new drummer Mike Mangini) sounds like the 'real thing' again, thankfully.I agree the last albums were pretty shit, and maybe that's because Portnoy went a little crazy.
If you got to know them in that phase (last decade, basically : )it's a pity I think,
and it may be hard for your mind to be 'changed'.
One can try with the track I linked to, though, I think it's great. -
• #699
Hmmm. Not so sure about that DT track: reminds me of a slightly less successful attempt at doing an Operation Mindcrime (which shows my age). I admit they are one of the bands that completely missed my radar over the years for some reason. They now have so much available on disc, over such a long period of time, that there's no real easy place to start.

Please do yourself a favour and check that album out anyway, they f*cking rock. No, they just sound like a nu-metal band that have listened to a Meshuggah CD and decided they need some "wacky" syncopation. It's like it's 2003 all over again. Dull dull dull dull dull.
You may as well have recommended Candiria.
About bikes you mean? Oh.
