Cheers Joe.
Good news about yours too.
Yes twins will be here soon so on second thoughts probably no track, or indeed anything! -

Mike, you should go see bluerip (michael) cycle specific physio, recommended.

Cheers Zed.
And a lot cheaper than £60 per session. That must have been in the city.

£60 per session was for 45 minutes with someone in Hampstead who was actually pretty good.
I am being referred to NHS so I won't have to pay going forward, though I wonder what kind of wait I will be looking at.How much do you charge and whereabouts are you based?

Joe, I'm sure you've probably looked into this already but I know an amazing osteo - he's the clunky clicky sort that makes your vertebrae click. Deaf south African guy used to do sports physio for SA rugby players, really knows his stuff not stupid money, Clapham based - PM me for phone number if you think it could help dude.

You already sent me to him about 10 years ago, remember? ;]

Been suffering a lot the past week, haven't been doing much riding which has been pretty depressing... Necked some Diclofenac last night, woke up feeling short of breath and still in pain... Crap... Decided to take some Naproxen this morning and it's made a massive difference! I feel almost OK!?! :]
Booked in to see a specialist physio at the end of November... It's been a long road...

Bike polo is killing my back... :[

i am having serious pack pain last few days... i had motorbike accident in 2004 and damaged my pelvis. i used to get occaisional mild pain on that side but nothing major. then i had an operation in may this year to fix a incisional hernia caused by one of the operations i had after the bike crash. since then the back pain went away completely.
but it is back for the last week or so with a fucking vengance. it hard to go from lying/sitting to standing. walking hurts. it comes and goes but sometimes when walking i get BAD twinges, but only for an instant. from what people have told me, it feels like sciatica, but not from my bum down my leg, more from my hip/pelvis area and the pain shoots upwards. i am guessing it is something nerve related, my mum suggested a trapped nerve... anyone had anything like this?
will be seeking medical advice after the weekend unless it miraculously goes away (which is what i am hoping).

Sounds like you need an x-ray and a trip to the physio, Joe... Hope you get it sorted soon...

I think my messenger bag is finally fucking up my shoulder after 4 years of playing nice.
Last week or two had been experiencing mild pain in my shoulder blade area which seemed to correspond with the main contact area of the back to my back, then last week I stupidly overloaded the bag with some bulky but not heavy items so the bag/straps were putting a load of tension through my shoulder as I couldn't expand them any more.
That night could hardly sleep for the pain that seemed to be in my shoulder blade somewhere and was limiting movement and even hurting to breathe a bit. This last weekend the pain and mobility improved massively when not using the bag so I thought "I'm fixed, get the bag out again for commuting" Bang back to square one last night.
Anyone else been crippled by their choice of bag? Thinking about a backpack or more liklely pannier bag to put a stop to this.

I avoid riding with a bag whenever possible these days, no matter how light, small, well designed etc etc I am pretty much always uncomfortable. It's easier for me as I can walk to work though - my other 'commute' ride is to my girlfriends in Dulwich, but as I usually have clothes at hers I rarely have to do it with a bag.
Can recommend the Mission bags for their distribution of load - I switched to one as messenger bags all gave me lower back pain. However, the mission bag does make me feel quite cramped around the shoulder/neck area (they are quite tall) so perhaps not for you.

My physio told me to stop using a messenger bag, hence my move to a mission workshop rucksack. It has really helped reduce my back pain.
Years of fencing, dragging a heavy kit bag and lugging record boxes has not done my shoulder girdle any favours and the asymmetric load from a courier bag was further compounding this.

I have acquired a MW Rambler from Condor and pray to god this helps necks ibuprofen
-
• #96
core strength work is probably also required
-
• #97
mine is much better now, of its own accord.
should probably still get it looked at.
probably won't.

Turns out the 35p pack of ibuprofen is working like a fucking charm, even though I've been able to mentally justify buying a £200 backpack by offsetting the travel fares and private physio required if I hadn't bought it. I'm actually saving money. Honest.

cold weather can also affect your back muscles.. make sure you are well covered,
and assymetric switching of messenger bags is great advice, thankskeep warm and safe y'all

I used to get backpain pretty bad, was bed ridden for a few weeks once. Osteopath told me that riding around with a bag full of shite was aggravating it (although it wasnt the underlying reason). Anyways, I invested in a carradice saddlebag with bagman support. Almost instant result, I avoid wearing a bag like the plague now. Nice not having a sweaty back too. Cant store as much stuff though although its amazing how much crap you can strap onto one.
Great news, Mike... Re: The track... Haven't you got twins on the way?
