  • Let's vote on it.

  • Whoa hold your horses mark! We need proposals first!

  • anyone got a bike for a girl called ziska? shes on my league team and hasnt got a bike apparently. please help if you can

  • My old NS is being sold back to Luca on holloween, between now and then all it needs is a v-brake+lever and chainset+bb and it's ready to roll?

  • I've got a Kona Humu medium, pretty stable bike, has low gear and double lever, needs saddle, bars, grips, front cable & housing, maybe a bit of a wheel true, wheel covers wouldn't go amiss.

  • cool, sent ziska a message directing her to this thread

  • Thanks for the offers guys. Just sent rickster a pm.

  • Do y'all reckon it's possible to collate all the info from custom polo bike builders to make a comparison?
This could help with choosing a new frame, even if it's just a guide.
Personally I'd like to know about what geometry is working best, and how the bikes are handling for people.

  • I think what LeCar is trying to say is, because they're all custom builds, everything you've typed as a header is completely up to the rider.

Although it could be argued that most builders have a start price; I believe a very basic 14 (120mm spacing, V mounts, track ends) is £550. But you can go mental and get shed loads of extras and probably spend about 900 on a frame if you wanted. Depends what you spec!

Similarly on Geo. I think a lot of people have messed with 14's set geo a little here and there, I believe Ryan makes a geo for the rider based on playing style but also has some numbers that work for everyone. I think we're a long way off an 'OTP geo', except that rabbit thing(Cohenjawhatchamacallit) maybe. But everyone I speak to with a Marino or Cohenjawhatchamacallit has speced something different on the HA or TT length.

  • What's the point of fat tyres? I only use them to raise the BB, to stop me from pedal striking every other turn. Basically compensating for a less-than-adequate frame... Is there another reason to use them?

  • Assuming the same effective diameter as a 700c setup, you'll get different effects when steering and leaning. Complex stuff.

  • I think what LeCar is trying to say is

No, he's saying don't forget Dodici and riding in circles.
I understand they're not. OTP, they're custom, but there are basics and guideline prices etc.
If I had some £'s to spend, I honestly don't know who I'd go with now, and what's a good geo.

  • Oak
£ Considerably less than Gabes paid
    Geo: 100% custom/Ryan wizard geo
Frame material: steel (631 for me)
    Spec: fillet brazed awesomeness
    Lead time: 4-6 weeks
Comments: Why would you go anywhere else if you're in London and have the money to spend?

    Triton
    £less
    Geo:
    Frame material: Ti
    Spec:
    Lead time: 8 months.

Even if Yorgo wasn't saying that James is right, the more custom the bike the less there is going to be a standard geo.

I don't think any of Ryan's are the same shape.

It's the same, but perhaps slightly less for 14s.

I think hija and triton are just frame builders who will do what you send them (although I've heard some of the hija's arn't exact spec... But they are the cheapest option).

Marino is the only one where you are paying for a specific geo, but they are made by hija, so it's his design which he's being paid for, so I doubt he'd happily share the angles and lengths.

Don't know about the others. Aren't dodici's alu?

Marino is the welder, Hija us Alejandro's brand.

  • Louis, you got your foreigners the wrong way round.

  • My new bike was made by BTR Fabrications of East Preston. They produce TIG-welded frames using Reynolds and Columbus tubing. Each design goes through a full CAD work up. You should expect £600-800 depending on the spec of each tube and how much design time is needed for yours. My frame was under four weeks from design finalization and deposit payment to handover. These guys are downhillers with a background in motor sport engineering so you'll get the right balance of strength and weight but if you want something like mine you can save yourself some design cost.

    Also, laser-cut gussets, yes fam.

  • Meh, it's midnight on Friday night I'm surprised if that's not the least of my mistakes.

  • If I could afford it I'd get an Oak. No questions. He plays polo for fuck sake.

  • There's more to it than that. There are plenty of people in polo that can't change a tube!

More than just playing polo, he knows what he's talking about.

I would also get oak over anything else.
