  • Good notion Beagle, will do. Picked up a Surly 20t rear from BC… should be about 41". Zoom!

  • My drive-side crank failed today on Blackfriars Bridge, went to put the power down and "Boom!" wound up kissing a taxi driver's side window... Pedal came off with my Sidi, musta unscrewed itself somehow... I'm not sure what happened tbh, threads on the crank are FUBAR'd, pedal threads were fine... Got the pedal back on just to get me home but may have shagged the threads, we shall see tomorrow....

This means my new (to me) Truvativ cranks will have to step up for Monday Night Dragon Polo... I just hope I haven't killed the pedals, they're really nice old TIme Atacs... Lighter than my other pair, I like them...

  • Your legs are just too hench jose.

Or maybe you're just a bloody useless mechanic.

  • do the 14 polo bikes come in 700c?

  • nope

  • I am well hench, G...

Bike almost sorted, had to drop £18 on a 22t freewheel and another £15 on a 32t chainring but that's not too bad all things considered...

  • Feels really good...

  • Man, these cranks are awesome... Went for a proper spin into town this arvo on them, Mrak was telling me that I'd notice the difference with an outboard BB, he was so right... A-ma-zing!

They feel like my Sugino 75 cranks used to feel right after I'd serviced my S75 BB... Perpetual motion machine...

Did you buy the 22t freewheel from a shop in London? If so which one?

  • Speak to Cedric, I think he has an ACS one for sale since he's now gone micro gearing

  • ^^ BLB... £20 to punters...

I raised my saddle when I got back from Oz, my back was still a bit shit at the time and it really helped, but it's really affected my polo sklz...

Lowered it back to the way it was and it feels way better, lower centre of gravity, etc... Coupled with a slightly lower gear it's really improved the way my Pomp feels...

Looking forward to being dicked on court tomorrow (and then having to look for another excuse for currently being so shit)...

No, sorry, keeping it for cyclocross build

  • A challenger appears...

  • Is that your new bike Joe?

  • My Marino arrived yesterday - initial impressions are really good. The finishing inside the frame is no worse than a £300 hybrid, so on the money. Welds aren't neat but aren't as messy as that guy on that blog recently. The headtube was filed out but it was a bit tighter than I usually expect. Headset went in fine with a bit of grease

I've stuck the (likely innacurate) Ipod angleometer on there and that thinks it's 1 degree slacker than requested, but I used my own fork so it's as least as likely that my measurements or Onza's measurements are out as Marinos.

The paint seems pretty tough - some OTP bikes I build flake when I tighten up the disc mount bolts or axle nuts. Not here.

Longer post-ride review will go up on birminghambikepolo.com sometime soon.

Nope, mine will look something like this...

  • hideous!

    Nice fade

  • No polo. No talk.

  • Sandy's quit quitting, haven't you heard, he's playing more polo than me these days.

  • I never quit polo, I quit the league and took a sabbatical from polo for 6-8weeks.

  • curved seat tube Joe, really?

  • I'm long-term testing it, not getting any say in colour scheme/components... It's gonna be fun anyway, Ryan built it...
