Bike Snob tweeted this:

I'm not making any judgement as to whether this would work well/is smart/blah/etc. I don't even run a rear brake. Just thought it was interesting.

Smart idea ... until you find your pads disintegrating because you've oiled your chain.

It's purely an exercise in "because I've got a welding kit, and because I can".Raised to the power of fucktard.

^ you just expressed exactly what i was thinking 100 times better than i ever could!

You could run it on the non-drive side to avoid any oil issues... Not really any safer or less prone to damage... Unless you ran a bash gaurd? Actually with a bash guard it would be safer than a wheel mounted disc brake?!
Any mechanical (dis)advantage to having it there?! It must be one or the other actually... At a guess wouldn't the friction required to brake on the chain ring be less than on the rear hub?! As the force hasn't been geared up?
( in case you can't tell I'm a big fan of people doing "because I can" things)

The mechanical disadvantage would be that its simply a fucking shit idea....

And what would it use as the braking surface there? -

And what would it use as the braking surface there?
I was suggesting using a right hand crank (with chainring and bashgaurd) on the left hand side...

I was suggesting using a right hand crank (with...
...right hand threads on the left side...When was the last time you saw a manufacturer mention the dedicated braking surface of their chainrings as a USP?
-
• #2343
Well, I know of a few people that have run thier cranks on the wrong side (mostly by mistake!) and don't think any of them had their pedals fall off... I also beleive you can get some cranks that are set up to run on the normally off side...
If I'm not to knackered my intention was to spend some time this week rebuilding one of my bikes into working order... One thing I was going to do was change th cranks... I might put them on the wrong side and see if the pedalscome off! :)
oh and the dedicated braking surface thing could have been said the first time they put a dedicated braking surface on rims?!

inside the "capsule" there is a lump of metal that all 3 cables attach to. nothing fancy, it cant be disassembled though. a bmx company called Primo used to make something called the Pervert, which allowed you to use normal brake cables for a gyro. i dont know if you can still get them or not.it was originally used to allow custom lengths of cable in the top part of the gyro, but it can be used for either.
also, there is a way of running 2 cables to a gyro, and them one to each brake arm, but this will obviously only be possible if you are using a brake which has 2 points at which the cable connects, such as a u brake. this is commonly referred to as a "London Mod".
EDIT - didnt realise that the page about gyros i was reading wasnt the last page of the thread - its late, sorry.
thought id leave this up though cause it might be useful to someone!

Especially, a new hole in the back of the seat tube plays the role to prevent the tire being hit to achieve extremely short length of the seat stay.
Nice idea!
