  • I'm heading north due to fuckwhittery

  • and how is that alejandros fault?

  • He allowed me to put gears on my silly bike

  • and victor. tut tut tut.

  • Where we're going we don't need gears.

  • You ever been to hounslow?

  • If the price of having gears is ending up in Hounslow...?

  • got rid of the gears. I keep messing them. But make lots of sense for people living in London Emyr. Manchester is a little town compared to London!

  • Sure, but I live outside Manchester. Polo is about 40 minutes away on a polo gear.

  • Emyr currently lives about 8 or 9 miles from polo so kinda gets it.

  • Pah. That's but a short pootle

  • at least two cogs? That's what I've done and it makes your commuting way better ... I wish I did that before

  • Scott does a similar journey but with 2 gears.

  • saves me a whole 10 mins over polo gear.....

takes 10 mins of faffing once at polo.

  • Ha, 10 minutes of faffing.

  • I'd assume the full geo isn't available to stop people just taking that to merino.

Just taking it to Marino isn't too cheap and takes about 4 months plus to deliver with no reply to emails. Plus his forks break. Meh.

Although I've heard someone* say they want to copy the Oak geo and reproduce cheap frames, so probably a good idea to keep it on the DL.

*I'm keeping a close eye on him.

  • Mielec all the things!

  • Hija v. Oak:

If I want a bike that works (quite brilliantly I must say) but less customised and heavier that said, much cheaper, I'll get a Hija. But if I want something custom and light, with a frame builder I could ring up, pop by and have a chat then I'll get an Oak. Pricier yeah, but you could literally watch your frame being built if you want (assuming you could get the same day off when Ryan is working on your frame and assuming too you just sit in a corner and not interfere with his work).

I love both, I have no preference for either, if I had the cash I would buy both and test it out, but I dont hence I replaced the Pomp with a Dolan which was the cheapest option. Look at what you want to spend and what you desire from the bike and decide on what best match your budget and needs. No OTP bike would fit as good as a custom, no custom would be cheaper than a OTP, as for lead time, it is irrelevant i.e. tailored suit v. something from Ted Baker, the former requires more work than the later. Don't even get me talking about cost of operation/living...

  • What's that about cost of operation/living?

  • Wow... Such wisdom... Many facts... Very Tuesday...

  • The fixie foxie polo frames work out about the same price as the hija. They're made to order rather than in batches. When I ordered mine they asked if I wanted any slight mods from the standard spec. If I was using 26" or 700c wheels. I found Matej easy to communicate with. The brazing/welds are tidy. The geometry is good. The only fault I can find is the lack of available colours (Matt black, gloss black and raw.) definitely worth considering over the hija if a budget polo specific frame is what your after.

  • In Belgium we got a 4th generation frame builder making polo frames with Colombus Aelle tubing for around € 300
Credits to Vincent for the geo

    this is mine

  • They also make other high-end frames but there way more expensive

  • Positive sloping toptube with riser stem? (Cam will love the TT styling.)

  • Its just wonky, non? Sorry if I missed the sarcasm.
