Tournament Update:
Birmingham managed a small improvement upon our European Champs debut by scoring two goals during yesterday's BFF Polo Tournament in London.
We lost our first game pretty rapidly to Cosmic (one of the better London teams, i believe). The second game was against a mixed-up team of varying abilities, who also beat us, but far less humiliatingly.
I think if more people on here could see how big and consistent the polo scene in london is, then our scene would blossom.

same place on wed? any games on sun?
-
• #255
same bat time, same bat channel.
if the calthorpe courts are busy, we may take a spin over to sparkhill park, on the recommendation of mastershredder.
come on down pastry lover - we need more people involved. wouldn't it make a nice change from bmx?
-
• #256
no it wouldnt!!!
but still... will try to make it down (as i keep saying, week after week after week).
was gonna come last wed to take some photos but had to do a 2-man van job loading a shitbomb-load of heavy-ass boxes in coventry, didnt get back from that til 7:40 and ended up staying in with pizza.
which reminds me... must dial for a pizza now!

No matter how good the Londoners are, it won't change the fact that:
1 - I have little time for hobbies
2 - I suck at polo -

looks like it's staying dry tonight - see you all at calthorpe:
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/wm/birmingham_forecast_weather.html
i'm coming round to mastershredder's idea of twice-weekly polo - it mitigates against bad weather, and gives more people a chance to come out and play. it also gives losers like me 100% more polo.
adrian sprocket was asking me for some flyers earlier - anyone artistic/pc-literate enough to put something together (i'll contribute to printing costs and push via oyb)
-

il have a whack at making a flyer. do a few designs nd stuff.
-
• #262
I was going to make some flyers but I was waiting for a certain courier come photographer to take some pics with a nice depth of field or ingenious lighting.
It'd be nice to have a design that actually features peeps in birmz. Also Sunday polo on 17th of Oct?
Got my own drill + bits - good mallets to follow. Still the outrageous price of £5 (MasterShredder has dibs on one) only 2 left of current batch. Will get some more sticks soon.

have fun homies, im ill so won't be bringing my A-game or Z-game.
It'd be nice to have a design that actually features peeps in birmz.
if i had any design talent i would have made a flyer with heads coming out of butt cheeks and posted it but instead you can all imagine me doing it and it being super funny...
i do have a flyer i made ages ago for bhamfgss, if i find it i'll post it but its not that funny.

Is £5 all?
I went a bought a couple poles with the intention of making my own to fuel my 'DIY ethic' shouldve just bought off you. Do you have any blue ones left (look rather spiffing with my bike) I have some black poles with red/yellow graphic if anyone prefers those.
-
• #265
DFP - i could do with a new pole after ham-fistingly re-drilling mine. how much?
i don't think we can wait any longer for that certain courier with expert photographic abilities. would anyone object to me putting out a functional/ugly flyer for the time-being before we get a better one? sam (s.hill?) mentioned he is studying photography, perhaps he can put more out there at his college - maybe also get in touch with the universities...
adrian seems keen to get in on it too.

Personally, I would play polo 6.5 days per week to the detriment of my job and marriage, but it seems some weirdos are slightly less enthusiastic.
how many people would be interested in playing on sundays? would you play twice per week if you currently come on wednesdays?
i'm thinking 5pm so people can still do sunday lunch with their moms...thoughts? suggestions?
-
• #267
I'd play both days when I don't have to work and when I've sorted my proper mallet out.
-
• #268
I got 2 poles for £8 delivered from these lot: www.edge2edge.co.uk

Oh, I found another court. Its new and in highgate next to reece cycles/paragon hotel. Its fenced in like calthorpe, maybe a good back up which isnt too far.

Sorry :-o
I have office-induced fatigue. Sitting on your arse all day does fuck all in terms of saving energy for later on. Got home at 7pm last night, and I was actually ready to leave the house at 7:20 with my photo backpack, reflective jacket and bike lights on, but when I opened the door the reality set in that I couldn't handle the journey. So I went and bought two pizzas instead...
I am lame.
-
• #271
haha - sounds like you're eating too much pizza.

It's partly the darkness and the post-work tiredness that puts me off. Shooting in the dark with flashes can be awesome but how about this for a suggestion. I ride BMX most sundays and am planning on riding a few spots in Selly Oak this Sunday. So if anyone was to play a few games in Selly (perhaps the B-ball courts behind Aldi) on Sunday atfernoon, I could shoot that before/after the BMX sesh. Just a suggestion.

Also, Fin - you should start birminghambikepolo.wordpress.com and then buy the domain name birminghambikepolo.com to redirect to it - then you, Dan and whoever else can regularly post stuff on there like times and locations of games, mallets for sale, photos, reports from polo contests etc.
edit: I've just registered that blog name just in case Sod's Law came into effect and someone from Birmingham, Alabama decided to start a bike polo blog. So Fin, if you want it just sign up to wordpress and I'll transfer the account over to you.

What the FUCK? Marriage?! Actually I knew that, and I'm sure I rode past you on the day you got married. But I can't even imagine you being married
-

2pm btw
it will soon get dark before 5pm!
...unless you buy the 35mm equivalent lens size for a camera with an APS size sensor.
