• He's on a tight budget anyway so he's not going near 500/600s. Sound quality matters not when you're in your bedroom, pumping it through caned 30 year old speakers anyway :)

  • Actually, they sound worse in the bedroom

  • Could be your lucky day, unless Multi's snaked ya

    correct

Proof's in the pudding. A load of bars and clubs tried Vetsax when they first came out and soon all reverted back to Technics.
Name me one decent club anywhere in England or the world in fact that uses Vestax decks?

Can't remember the model but it was the first one, the one that everyone tried.
Had a little joystick on to 'nudge' the pitch, why? No Need
Had a dial/needle on the baseplate to show you the beatmatch, why? No need
Had a reverse play option button to play the record backwards, why? No need
Plus the buttons were well clunky and overall, the thing just felt and looked clumsy and heavy.

I think you're talking about different models. The joystick one was the top of the range with a red digital pitch display. My initial thought was wow, at least someone is trying to innovate and just making poor tech1210-a-likes. If your anal enough about keeping paw prints off your vinyl then there's an argument for using it (though on using them they were pointless for me). Underneath they still had a better motor than 1200s/1210.
The model with the the analogue pitch meter was the PDT5000 and different to the digital flagship model mentioned. I think these looked great in a dark room- its was one of those design things that's love or hate. I DO regret selling those.

I don't care how many bars have returned them. There was an old house wives tale knocking about a few year back about Sasha or PVD(?) throwing a pair into a lake cos they were weren't working proper or some other shit. Then kids that spent more time reading muzak mags than playing tunes perpetuated this myth that all vestax were shite. I dont mind folk having a different oppinion but as long as its educated or based on proper experience and not based on DJ xyz says. I'm sure if Louie vega had said they were god's own then reaction would be different.

Its like the bollocks I get Djing with vinyl still. Folk eulogising how it all sounds better and "warmer", yet are listing via a beat up sound system could never tell the difference in blind test.

Paul Troubles and really nice bloke.

  • Actually, they sound worse in the bedroom

That's kinda what I inferred by the "sound qual matters NOT" bit.

  • Unless you're going for an audiophille mixer then they are much of a sameness. If you're talking about turntable battling then I can see no use in the pioneers, just get a second hand vestax scratch mixer on the bay.

The sorry to keep going over it again but the pioneer mixer is a great example for my point. The overwhelming majority of clubs/bars have them. Does that make them the best?

Don't worry too much about sound quality from a scratch mixer, just the quality/longevity/replaceability of the faders plus the LAYOUT

  • I'm 99% certain that the Vestax I've ever used had the joystick, dial and reverse play option - can't remember the model but it was the first one they launched about 97/98.

And the wives tale thing I've never heard but again, the proof's there. If they threw them away then there's a reason for it. I have qualified my opinions by actually being able to say I've used them on numerous occasions and like many, I think they are horrible, purely from personal experience - not cos someone's written about them in a mag

    Vinyl FTW every time!

Agreed 'Trouble' is sound, DJed with him on numerous occasions(when he actually decides to turn up) - has he still got a crack problem though?

  • A lot of clubs and bars use the Pioneers but only the average places. Fabric, Ministry, Plastic People etc wouldn't even dream of using them purely cos they sound shit
Whenever I've DJed on them you don't really notice how crap they are as you're in a booth and playing off a monitor - I used to love using the effects though, that's why I bought one. Didn't realise how bad the sound was til I actually used one at home
I really thought I'd bought a dud when I plugged it all in and turned it on, had to plug my old Numark 1400 back in to check and that was much better. Well disappointed

  • But that is the great thing pioneer did, they made something that was so intuitive use that any newbie could get on with them. A leaf many manufacturers should take.

I'm stupidly thinking of getting an E&S DJR400

  • Name me one decent club anywhere in England...

    ERR...UMMM...it's a trick question!

  • Here's my set-up

  • flash scouse get.

  • Nice setup!

  • Nice. I hope you've had your OH&S inspection to make sure decks are not too low so as to cause excess spine bendage.

  • Impressive. Is it an orig or an LE?

What is the score with the crossover with a single amp and a pair of speakers? Useful or overkill?

  • you people make me fucking sick

this is a bike forum, you pieces of shit. if i WANTED to see a load of hoodies 'chatting shit' about which 'decks' were the most 'boss' for playing 'vinyl' on, i'd head down to the sink estate carpark.

LE, had it about 2 years, half price from Hard To Find records. The Isolator is decent enough too, really need to whack it up to get the full, smooth sounds goin but my speakers ain't loud enough and my neighbours lose it when I have it too loud anyway. Taken it out to a few clubs before, kicks in a treat on a decent system

  • where's your crossfader?

    ha!

  • where's your crossfader?

    Errrrr? Piss take right?

  • no! serious question

  • You using the fades to mix?

I use a Rane. Best scratch mixer there is, magnetic crossfade and levels, zero contact so no sound degradation ever. Plus you can play about with all the fades, where the sound comes in etc to design the mixer to your style. Might find 'em cheap on the bay

  • I'm still not getting it.

as far as I'm concerned, it's not mixing unless it looks like this

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

  • fred beat me to it... just found something you cd/ mp3 people might be interested in

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

    ^he's the king

  • It's all about a little box of 45s, a single turntable and very rapid changeovers in '09...

Now I know where I've seen you before Joe....DJ Derek....yup, dunno how I missed it!
