I'm surprised by how much this has upset me.
Thought I'd managed to be objective about my support for Spurs. But this is such a half assed decision, based on not much more than your ambitions extending beyond your grasp, and believing the media hype, about where the team should be, rather than where they are.
So you're not sure AVB is the right man for the job, then keep him for the season, let him manage out the string, and see where he gets you. We're in no danger (fingers crossed) of relegation, still in the cups, and less than two wins off a champions league place.
No one you get in right now, will be long term, if you do manage to get one now, you'll be paying over the odds to release them from their current club, you're not going to be buying in new players in the transfer window, so any manager will have to work with what you have, so why not let the incumbent do that?
Smacks of desperation, pure and simple.

or....the access the tottenham board have has allowed them to see that AVB was out of his depth and driving an expensive squad backwards.

Spurs are also going to get a reputation as a sacking club, generally a trait that doesn't entice a lot of the top managers. One of the supposed main reasons Pep went nowhere near the Man City job.
Anyway you shape it, in my mind its a fucking dumb decision

This is a rather one dimensional look at the situation though isn't it?
It's been mooted several times before that he has lost the dressing room, and prior to that he doesn't have a good reputation for managing players.
It seems like he's done a fairly good job of selling, alienating or loaning out last seasons (reasonably successful) squad, and hasn't really integrated any of the new players - with the possible exception of Paulinho, who has hardly been setting the pitch on fire.If the club feels that he's no longer able to move the team forward and (as you mention) we're not in any danger of being relegated, then why not get rid now? Especially if they DO have someone else in mind.
You moan about the style of football that Capello's teams play, which makes me wonder if you've actually watched Spurs play this season? We were reasonable without the ball for the first 10 or so games (which now looks like a thing of the past) but our possession has been turgid and slow throughout the season. We have played with little to no width (which has been our strength for the last 4-5 years) and we are incredibly easy to defend against as a result. Shit on a stick for the most part.
Given the players we have at our disposal (new and 'old') — I don't think that the board are asking too much for the team to play with some style, or excitement.
I'm sort of playing devil's advocate here, because I think you're being rather dramatic, and I think they should have given him some more time.. but thinking about it now I don't really see how he was going to turn it around. If they can get Capello in to scare the shit out of some of the wetlips we're bankrolling, organise the defence and clear out some of the crap then I think that would be a step in the right direction.

In Levy’s perfect world, Luis Suárez would be a Tottenham player and Brendan Rodgers would have replaced Harry Redknapp. Spurs had practically signed Suárez before he joined Liverpool, until Redknapp decided the Uruguayan was too similar to Rafael van der Vaart and pulled the plug on the deal.

lol
is that why Tottenham have since tried to hijack all of our signings? Just in case we get another Suarez and they miss out again. Good policy >>>>>>>>>>>
