Not happy about this:
"An insider has confirmed Mourinho intends to sell Hazard, Oscar and Mata; believing them to be too lightweight to withstand the physical nature of the Premier League. It's understood he has board level backing for this move, which should pave the way for the return of trusted Mourinho lieutenants Geremi, Essien and Juliano Belletti. Chelsea will then complete their summer transfer activity with a move for Sunderland's Titus Bramble.

Er. No. If the goalposts and crossbars were made larger etc and so on.
The dimensions of the goal itself are changing. Not the boundaries marking out the goal. Or have I missed something?i had thought about being that pedantic but then when i realised to make the goals bigger you would actually have to increase the size of the cross bar and posts i deleted my post
then i thought about deleting this post because john already said it ... but i didn't

I found myself hating Chelsea with less passion when Rafa was manager and Cunt face was out of the team.
Roll on next year I say -

Indeed, I was a scientist.
Porportionally, there would still be the same amount of woodwork to hit. Shurely? -
• #82137
Proportionately, probably less as you would still use the same thickness of plank. Each plank would be longer and therefore have a greater surface area and be easier to hit. Shots that would otherwise go wide would hit the woodwork.
-
• #82138
Depends what you are comparing to.
If the goal is length x and height y, with a woodwork width w, and we assume the woodwork is flat, can only be hit from the front, and has an even width all the way round the goal, the area of the woodwork would be:
2(*y*w*) + (*xw) + 2(w²)
The w² bit is because of the top corners.
The first two factors are proportional to any changes in width and height, but the corners remain constant (if you don't change w)
-
• #82139
Also, doubling the height would give you twice as much extra woodwork (proportionally) as doubling the length would.
-
• #82140
And of course the woodwork isn't flat, it's round, so the surface area of a curved surface is relevant, and the potential angles a ball could be hit from, and the radius of the ball, and all sorts of other factors which makes the problem much harder to work out.
In short, is the change proportional? Mathematically? No. Approximately? Yes.

And who said the intellectuals didn't hang about here? -

Not quite. They failed to spot that Carlton Cole has been released and has an orderly queue of Top Eight clubs queuing up to sign him.

I sat in the row behind George Best on a flight from Stockholm to Heathrow once. The whole plane went quiet when the stewardess asked him what he wanted to drink. He asked for a mineral water.

But by making the goal larger, you also make the lengths of the crossbar and goal posts marginally longer (depending how you increase the size of the goal). Therefore more to hit.
Unless you increase the depth of the goal, of course.
