I remember when the Americans took over they kept on about getting in young people and building for the future. Then they go and employ KK. It's clear that he was an emergency appointment as he was the easiest choice at the time. I suspect they always had ideas about it just being short term and the results this season coupled with the Suarez affair just made them show their cards earlier.
That said, i would be very surprised if Benitez were to return, which is why Lambert, Martinez or Rodgers will rightly top the list. however, if the new manager gets off to a poor start and gets the KOP against them, then things will deteriorate even quicker than they did with Hodgson. It's one hell of a job and it will take someone with real self belief and the knowledge that the owners will not sack them after one season if they fail to finish in the top 4.
