  • That is if Gerrard stays. Rumours are that he is off in the summer. Everton or Tranmere.

  • That's why the youth teams that win the most amount of trophies (Spain and the Netherlands) are also where the highest number of players flow through to the top tier.

As much as I'd like to agree with what you're saying, I still think you're wrong.

Ajax, Barcelona, Lyon, Feyenoord, West Ham (pains me to say so) are traditionally very strong clubs when it comes to promoting youth, one of the reasons is that they tend to be the champions in their age groups.

    Rather that than The Scrubs.

I hear they have nice showers there

  • I'd love to see Robben back, he is one of the greatest players in the world, and would enrich our league.

I agree, those clubs to all have very good youth systems, and Liverpool are still very much playing catchup, all I'm saying is that you can't look at results in youth football in the same way as senior football, sometimes the result isn't as important as the performance.

    You're kidding right?

  • No I'm serious.

While players like Robben, Ronaldo etc dive a lot, they also have amazing skill, and are great to watch.

  • I'd give him something to cry about

  • Mike, there's a serious comment about diving a page back. If FIFA don't do anything about it then why should players stop diving?

True, but however it's where a winning mentality gets instilled.

  • Youth football can never really be judged on results, that just isn't the priority. The better a player gets the less likely they are to still be playing in the youth team.

But it is valuable experience of European football, and they may be playing the stars of the next 15 years.

Arsenal won the youth premier academy league from 2007 to 2011 last season they had a bit of a blip - moved a lot up to reserves and blooded younger players, but this season they are back on top - not bad but not established enough to supply the quality of players needed

It's only been running 11 years but they seem to be getting the results.. to put it into perspective Barcas has been running 34 years..
