read back for the last ten pages. it's full of arsenal fans trying to dismiss the fact that hes been your best goalscorer for the last two years and saying how lazy, awful, disruptive in the dressing room (lolable that one) he's no greedier than half your players, he's just trying to take whats he can in his short playing career.

I'm no Arsenal fan but there was a huge whiff of bullshit over that entire incident.

Did he go down? Yes.
Was he touched? Yes.
Does worse happen week in, week out in all leagues? Yes.
Has UEFA done anything systematically to reduce diving in the game? No.
Did UEFA throw the entire rulebook and process out the window in order to ban him? Yes. Was it fair? No.

UEFA rightly came to their senses and realised that they set a really stupid, vague and ultimately dangerous precedent that would come back and bite them in the butt some day.

so how do they stamp out the diving?
i agree there have been worse, but if they ban them too, it might stop.

That is what was missing - the consistency. They just knee jerked the response and set a standard that they had never lived up to, nor that they were willing to enforce.

My hope is that they they go away and say "Right, so how do we tackle diving? We need to define it and then agree sanctions."

But they're UEFA. So no hope then.

maybe it does need further definition, but if they continue to ban divers retrospectively, it will work.

Oh it'll need definition - too many lawyers involved in the game these days.

Needs to go beyond the "deceiving the referee" and include "advantage" - like going down easy to get a free kick on the wing that is essentially a glorified corner kick.

Diving is as serious as the point/position/time in a match when it is comitted.
They can't police it - they have to raise the stakes when you are caught. i should imagine Arsenal have put in a maaahoooosive dossier on cases they would like looked into in light of uefas retrospective ban, combined with the case against Adebayor incitement and they came back with
"Fuck this - lift the play"

There is also a chance the rule isn't that tighty defined so this time it fell through - I can't wait till its a semi final and match turning point. then it's interesting...

He scored 10 goals last year (RVP was top) and 24 on his year as the main striker. He had an amazing year BUT he lead the line. i could have scored 24 that year. we were creating 15+ chances per match - that was some of the best football i have seen going forward (he wasted a sitter a game.. easily!)
That summer we had a 30million offer and i can't name one arsenal fan didn't want the money. even after that year.

• He is the only one to hold the club to ransom - after one good year - without crediting the players who set up those goals and defended when he didn't)
  
• He asked for what Henry got paid (at the end of a fantastic service to the club from a great player)
  
• His attitude on the pitch stank - sulking, not passing and shouting at players for not giving him the ball
