ah. no. i'm sorry buddy, but i can't go with the tv ref. i think the game stands and falls on the decisions made by the referee.
the game will slow down, which isn't such a problem with games like rugby and american football and to some extent tennis. however, there then becomes the issue of the team still trying to "cheat" the referee by over riding his/her decision. if you've ever seen the level of wankery that goes into an american football coach challenging a referee's decision, you'll know what i mean.the only place for a tv ref in association football is on the goal line.
but then, we wouldn't have a won a world cup.but seriously. the solution is to keep the system open, and have the referees explain their decisions or hold their hands up when they're wrong. but not to be able to go back. the game stands and falls on decisions made in the match under match circumstances.
a line in the sand must be drawn.
Correct, we do not need any stop/start in football. All results should stand, otherwise you end up like Formula 1 where results are often decided behind closed doors after the race. Video evidence should be used though to charge players with cheating for stuff like outrageous dives etc.
5 match bans would sort it out, also refs should clamp down on diving in general.

The slowing of the game (it's gonna be negligible) would be offset by the ability to get a definitive decision.
I don't think it'd be like an american football challenge either. The only people with referral power should be the ref (with linesmen & 4th officials able to recommend it). If you have the opportunity to get things right I don't see why you wouldn't. Especially in a game like football where most of the shouting/aggro comes from players arguing with the ref.
Like I said, it should only be for penalty decisions and goal-line stuff which can change a game. Then to stop simulation and diving give someone the power to fine people after a game (doesn't have to be much, just something to know they're being watched).
I'd like to see an open system with refs admitting they were wrong but I don't think it works.

Why not just throw Arsenal out of the competition. That would act as a perfect deterrent to other sides and would cut diving at a stroke.

3-1 to Arsenal, Eduardo, Eboue and Arshavin all on the score sheet
Ooooh Close..
He did go down easy so we can chalk off that pen... still won by a fair margin.
The Arsenal looked good again, Denilson just gets better.. he is the new Alonso that that shite at Anfield will miss so much, leaving them fighting for 6th ;) -

When will you get it through your stupid head? Pompey owed us 10M so we didn't pay what was advertised.
Your mob mentioning title threat...the irony.
pleb
thats just bad business allowing pompey, a club run by fishermen in a dodgy finance deal, to owe you money... thats why you are destined for mid-table

fuck, forgot about you prediction.
nice work.also agree with andy. the dive was not necessary, but we would have still been pumped.
the arsenal subs were awesome. ramsey looks great.fortune could be big the biggest pony i have ever seen.

right. so, if the problem is they're being conned, how are they going to clamp down on it if they've been conned?
that would mean video review of every decision made, and you can guarantee that sam allardyce would be at the front of that queue.or if when they catch it they issue a five match ban. that's still a gamble most players would take.

players yes. managers no.

Football? Oh... You guys are talking about soccer...

getting the media off the "refs are wrong" tip would be good. i'd like to see andy gray puffing his way around the pitch trying to make decisions.

ah yes, big red, what did the door staff of the UEFA champions league say to you?
"ah yes, i can see you're champions of your league, but we've asked you to play against a team that finished fourth (yes fourth) to see if you can come in."was this followed 90 minutes later with
"i'm sorry, Queen's Celtic, unfortunately you can't come into this party. You'll have to stay at home and play in your league of 12. with all the intricacies that come from that bizarre format you have up there regarding top positions. and midweek games in the europa league. here's a cheese sandwich. no. you can't have a cuddle." -

and you have to admit, we were unlucky to draw arsenal, as opposed to fc bosnia, like every other team.we will be there next year, too.
give me a buzz when your mob of fucking farmers and bakers get a game in europe and i will watch it with you.
fuck me. no one really gives a fuck about the scottish league, everyone knows it's shit. it's about beating the huns and playing in europe. you talk like celtic and rangers fans don't know this.
have fun struggling to get promoted and winning 10 points in a season again

They're not always conned, and they often spot it, but all too rarely give out yellow cards, especially if a player is on one already, or is a high-profile player. The FA already hand out bans for fouls that are not spotted by the ref, so why not for cheating.
God, I'd love to see Gerrard get fucked over for it.

sorry, bored at work.
i missed the match, and for the record, i'd love it if we could get anywhere near our former glory of being relegated from the premiership. i don't see it happening unless the south seas island bubble bursts.
@manc ronnie
so it's pressure on the refs. they get issued orders from FIFA, then get told to interpret them by the FA, then know-nothing no-marks like Richard Keys point out they're not doing their job properly.man, David Simon should write about the struggle of being a FA referee. The story arc would be stronger than when Prez went to be a teacher.

Gerrard'd never get a game, he'd be banned so much
-
• #4672
Also, the point is, football is supposedly a non-contact sport. so, there is some merit in making the referee believe contact was made.
True, Gerrard, Owen, lots of other English players as well as "them Continentals" would be banned. It'd be great.
Not sure about international tournements working so well (World Cup etc).
Anyway, this has all got rather in depth and wordy for this thread.
ahem
Forest, weapons, the lot of 'em. -
• #4673
gerrards dives are at least done well
he leaves his foot in hooks and tumbles
way better than that cheat from last nightand talking about divers
guess who the red mancs are lining up to replace that cunt of an arsehole ronaldo the ever popular Mr. Robben from one diving prick to another -

it's fish in a barrel stuff with me, at the best of times, don't worry.
This thread is for association football not egg chasing. Start your own bloody thread. ;p
As an Arsenal fan I have to say that I was irritated by Eduardo's dive last night. I don't like to see that from any player, never mind one playing for the team I support. It was unedifying. That said, the result would have been the same regardless of the penalty.
