Booking this in advance but I believe, Carnival and various Carnival based parties notwithstanding I will be settling into the Coach and Horses, this coming Sunday to watch the glorious double bill of Spurs - Man City, and Arsenal - Man U.
All welcome obviously..

is Nasri all that? far as i could tell he had a good half a season and then disappeared...again. Arsenal are you sure you can't replace a midfielder that after all wasn't the answer to your problems. You made a profit now go out and put a decent offer in for Albion's Mulumbu and solve all your problems in one swoop.

I've just been doing some maths re: the Manchester City wage bill. The net yearly spend on wages (of playing staff) has increased by £59,400,000 (after tax and before bonusses) from the last published accounts. Obviously this increase goes over 1.5 accounts, but still is pretty frightening.
I could not take into account bonusses/cost o paying off contracts. Obviously City's commercial, matchday revenues will have increased, but considering their wage bill from the last accounts eclipsed their total income by £8million, I'm still struggling to see where they will align themselves financially.
n.b If someone is earning £5.2 million after tax, on an contract signed in 2010, does that mean they will be payed £10.4million before tax, due to the 50% tax threshold? And which figure is entered into the accounts?

That's excellent news. Same firm that did the London velodrome.
Has anyone mentioned yet how DCFC are doing in the Championship?

Isn't anyone who is paid that amount of money able to negotiate with HMRC about how much tax they pay?
The Americans are able to get around this by having philanthropy.

I don't know, that's why I am asking! :)

Abramovich does. So does Lakshmi Mittal. And that little character Ecclestone.

well obviously the world will carry on as normal.
But in the context of Arsenal, their possible transfer target and their "big team" status, what happens to all of that.
May is a long, long time away, but will Arsenal have a Liverpool-esque descent down the league? The game between the two was more like watching Bolton v Stoke than two European footballing giants.
Bolton Stoke, descent down the table ... give over .. you're having a laugh.

Those guys make use of the Non-dom ruling. Handily set up by the government to attract wealthy businessman to live here.
Didn't loads of people do one when the tax increased? My missus' boss fucked off to Geneva when it was announced.
I understand the whilst her company doesn't pay well enough for her to consider going there, her husband (a banker) did.
The footballers must have their money tied up in trusts and other loophole-exploiting methods.
Avoidance I have no issue with - evasion I do.

Here's a list of Non-dom donors to mainly the conservative party. Arcadia House seems to come up quite a bit.

How good are DCFC at the moment?
Also: Spurs: FUCKING SHIT.
Also: Prizes aren't awarded in August.
Also: 1 dodgy game does not a bad keeper make.
Also: Poor old Wenger. He should be moved upstairs. He's been beaten by cold hard cash rather again. That's twice in England and once in France.

You'd guess so, not sure how this goes, but in a lot of European countries there's a tax ruling for foreigners (Spain, Netherlands and Italy off the top of my head). As a temporary (max 10 years IIRC) foreign worker in the Netherlands you'll pay maximum 30% income tax and here is some information on the situation in Spain, they called it the Beckham law. Real Madrid did an awesome deal by offering him a "tax-free" salary.

Some more here, loopholes using shell companies for their image rights and only paying business rates.
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/premier-league-stars-using-loophole-to-save-millions-in-tax-2118289.htmlSo avoidance, not evasion.

no but three consecutive games dropping the ball, misreading crosses etc etc. will be surprised if he is first choice keeper this time next year. Doesn't look like he can handle the expectation

As said, I have no issue with avoidance - it's completely legal. Maybe immoral, but not against the law.
If you had that much wouldn't you?

But I mean if a player is getting paid his £5.2million a year after tax, what does he care about the before bit. I was just curious as to what this goes down as in the company accounts. Although maybe they do the tax loophole stuff to begin with.

Don't the players get 20% of their fee when they sign? I would imagine that they all have their methods of "wealth management." We're all aware of Robbie Fowler's property portfolio, but I'm told that Dennis Wise has a string of bricks and mortar type investments and Steve McManaman owns a huge amount of a Spanish Costa.
