may have told this story before, friend of mine from university, tony, of italian extraction, big palace fan EEEEEEEaagles!!! was a young un when the 82 world cup rolled round, and obviously was excited when Italy won the world cup. Though not as excited as his uncle who dragged the whole of his family, wife and daughters out to streatham high st and marched barefoot along its entire length, waving a Huge! italian flag around his head to celebrate with his brother and family.
God I love when the world cup comes round, or the euro's and the flags come out, got to hope portugal do well so there can be more late night shenanigans and barely moving vehicles, tooting their horns at full volume to celebrate every portuguese victory down south lambeth and wandsworth roads...

Schumacher put Batiston in hospital with broken ribs and a broken jaw(I think?). Decision by the ref:
Just a goal kick!
think he broke 2 vertebra in his back, just a goal kick. indeed>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

many years ago but a good few years after the incident I was hanging about in Banbury library for some God forsaken reason and I happened upon Schumacher's autobiography. If memory serves me right he explained the incident and then went on to say that he and batiston became friends and was even invited to his wedding. A few years ago I read an interview with Batiston and he said that he hated Schumacher who never contatcted him to apologise let alone get an invite to his wedding. What a cnut.
