  • He's wrong though, Joe. First of all there's a level of teams who've consistently won the domestic League, which doesn't include Chelsea.

There's a level of teams who've won the European Cup/Champions League, then a level above that of teams who've regularly won that competition. Chelsea aren't in that group either (neither are Arsenal before anyone tells me that).

  • Apparently Newcastle were handed 2 pens and Arse had a man sent off for no reason?
I can't wait to hear Whinger on MOTD

NUFC had a perfectly good goal disallowed but one of the pens they had(the 2nd) was NEVER a pen. awful decision

Saha also scored FIVE yesterday but again, awful decision to disallow his perfectly good 2nd

  • Beckford's goal was LUST!

    I agree

I'd say you have Barcelona on a level on their own at the moment

Then you have the Real, Inter, Man U, maybe Bayern.

And then get have Chelsea, City, and various others, I'd say.

It didn't look a penalty on the goggle box, but really, it should never have mattered. Diaby lost his head. The Barton tackle was tough, but looked fair to me. If you contrast his reaction with Sagna's reaction to being maliciously stamped on by Bowyer, it's clear that he messed up.

The only thing Arsenal can feel genuinely aggrieved at is that Nolan only got a yellow for grabbing Sczesny by the neck. I know that he clearly signalled that Diaby went for 2 pushes, so in that context he was being consistent, but that's not the law - the initial contact on Barton by Diaby was enough to get him sent off, likewise Nolan on Sczesny. But who knows what would have happened at 10 v 10?

  • Szczesny on twitter:

"It is hard to make any comments on today's game without using the magic word "referee"... Thought he was brilliant today..."

  • Three league wins in the last six years.

It's a fact that Forest & Villa have both won the cup with the big ears more often than Chelsea (and Arsenal).

Chelsea are, in European terms, behind Borussia Monchengladbach, but ahead of St Etienne.

  • I would say Chelsea are about level with Boerdeaux in terms of European greatness

  • Ajax, Juve & Barcelona are the only teams to have won all 3 European competitions.

But the most important measure going forward is the Money League, which lists teams according to revenue. Averaged over the 5 seasons ending 08/09:

    1. Real Madrid
    2. Manchester United
    3. Barcelona
    4. Bayern Munich
    5. Chelsea
    6. Arsenal
    7. Liverpool
    8. Milan
    9. Roma
    10. Internazionale

Hardly. The only Euro trophy the Girondins have won is the Inter Toto Cup (according to Wikipedia, they have also won the Latin Cup & the Coppa delle Alpi but I had never previously heard of either).

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but Chelsea have only ever won the Cup Winners Cup and that other pointless Super Cup

    Hardly race horse pedigree

  • Three league wins in the last six years.

Just the one in the hundred years before that though, eh?

A team with no real history to counterbalance Liverpool, a team with nothing but history.

  • lol should be a good encounter.

History is a tricky thing though. I mean how far in the past do you need to go before it is history?
Liverpools 2005 win is history, what about Uniteds back to back league wins or Chelseas double last year. All history?

Or did history begin in 1995, roughly the time Chelsea became 'good'?

  • Well, I thought Diaby got a Red for two offences, the push on Barton, and then the push on Nolan, but yes Nolan should have been punished too.

But I thought both penalty decision were fair, the second was weak, but the Newcastle player did get knocked over by the defenders.

But even if you say that wasn't a penalty, Newcastle had a fair goal disallowed, so you can't really complain about the result.

First pen was weak the second was a work of fiction, Bartons girly fall to the floor to win the free kick that lead to the 4th should never have been given and Nolan shouldn't have been on the pitch.

so thats 3 of the 4 goals given to them. i'd say the result is a little piss poor. Arsenal didn't help themselves but losing the one player with a tackle to a bad reaction to a shit challenge rocked us. still thought Barton is still a total twat and Nolan isn't far behind him.

Arsenal threw it away and the ref did us no favours. that just fuels any decline or anger you have. fk em

  • RDM on gardening leave. oops! bad decision west brom.

  • yep dark news

  • must have fallen out with the board. are there any good managers out there to replace? chris houghton maybe?

  • Strange decision on the face of it, but looking at recent results you can't really argue. 13 defeats in the last 18 is pretty shocking but I've always though West Brom play good stuff.

  • That´s bad news - he´s a good lad.

  • Houghton is a good call.

  • Tough break, Tim... Houghton is a very good call...

Getting excited about this afternoon's encounter... May have to head to the pub early with all the sports sections...
