I suggest that whoever wrote that does not really know what they are on about. It's been pretty fiesty over the years when the clubs have been in the same division.
YouTube - Fulham 1-0 Chelski - pitch invasion
I was there that day and had the pleasure of seeing the police stand by and ignore a pitch invasion and Fulham fans exposing themselves (why?) to everyone in the Chelsea end.
Still, it only happens once every three decades and so it can hardly be seen as a red hot fixture. Chelsea really can't be bothered by Fulham. Brentford , on the other hand, really hate Fulham.

Fulham supporters, however, who are generally more recent converts to football support, are much more chippy in their attitudes
I don't agree with this. One of the major problems with the Fulham support is its old age. You are maybe right in that there are not many mid 30s Fulham fans. The club in the vital years of their footballing upbringing were languishing in the lower leagues and they went glory hunting (Chelsea).
Believe me, the Riverside and Stevenage Road ends are full of old codgers. That's why they don't sing, need blankets and get upset when the play becomes too exciting. Our euro run, caused many casualties and a sharp increase in cardiac arrests.

Chelsea fans love to pretend they can't be bothered by Fulham. Brentford , on the other hand, really hate Fulham.
ftfy
And QPahhhhaaaaaaaarrrr (Alan Partridge). They really don't like Fulham, or Chelsea. Their moto is "We hate everbody and nobody cares".

In the olden days, when I was a boy and before, quite a number of people would go to both Chelsea and Fulham home games.
This is an old school football fans thing to do, far removed from the rucking elements.
Same used to be true of Millwall and CP and obviously CP and the Dons when they ground shared.
Although, I always advised my CP supporting mate not to mention that when we went to the Den.
BTW Clive, please apply equal alacrity to your email as you do to this thread!

Does anyone hate Coventry?
(the team) -
• #23009
Yes.
The first paragraph of the book "The Football Factory" by John King- so much better than the film - goes:
"I fucking hate Coventry..."

Leicester probably do as well.
Then again, we all hate Leicester...

Was it Brian Kilcline he hated? Or Steve Og?

Some years ago a
mobgroup of Chelsea supporters was travelling to Leicester, among them Greenaway, the legendary Zigger Zagger man. As the special train trundled northwards, they sang and among the songs that they sang was the one which went:We hate Nottingham Forest
We hate Liverpool too
We hate Man United
But Chelsea we love you.Given their destination, Greenaway inserted a descant:
We hate Nottingham Forest
We hate Liverpool too - and Leicester
We hate Man United
But Chelsea we love you.It was then sung at the match and the descant stuck.
When the tune was borrowed for the song
We all follow the Chelsea
Over land and sea
We all follow the Chelsea
On to victorythe descant was retained, thus:
We all follow the Chelsea
Over land and sea - and Leicester
We all follow the Chelsea
On to victory. And so it is sung today when most people have forgotten who Leicester are.

Seems as though Butch was angling for a pay rise but his contract was at an end. He came in to replace Steve Clarke when Grant was around. Job done. Hopefully Clarke or Zola are on their way back.
