England are pretty shite. Looking forward to them getting knocked out so I can properly enjoy proceedings.

Absolutely agree with this, really good at football but doesn’t really have an obvious position and would get ruthlessly exposed/bypassed in midfield against the better teams (as, to an extent, he was tonight).

Classic England take an early lead and then unable to keep the ball against a more composed team. Only difference this time is we don't concede.
Too quick to punt long or just whack it. Pickford kicking long to Kane every single time he gets the ball, ignoring the fact Kane is up against a 6'5" defender. Just frustrating. -

In the next match vs Denmark, I’d like to see England line up with midfielders in midfield. Please.

… and maybe someone on the left … who is left footed ?
it meant no outlet for switching play , Trippier bit of a lonely figure - two good goal saving challenges but centre of the box - feels a mistake , hopefully Shaw is vaguely fit for Thursday -

Found a brief behind-the-scenes video, the floor is CGI but as you say they are really on a roof next to the Brandenburg Gate. Didn't see the 'indoor' set on the broadcast but also looks to be subtly enhanced.

Agree. There’s nothing wrong with having amazing players - like Foden - to come off the bench. Rather than trying to squeeze them into a lopsided system.

The best bit about international tournaments is the armchair managers.
Change my mind.

It’s called discussing the match, mate.

It's actually England getting knocked out.

I was pleasantly surprised at how elegant Ingerlund looked on the ball in the first half. And then... 🤣
I love Jude, he's gotta be the most beautiful man ever to put on a football shirt. He's like a footie Sam Cooke, gorgeous with a sprinkling of dangerous.
Watching the Holland game now, I'm willing them to be great but they're lacking, aren't they?

If this thread isn’t for discussing football matches, where is?
-
• #169590
Yeh that was my point.

Hmm, tough one to decide on. But I think the armchair managers telling Southgate how to do his job is a gift that keeps on giving up to, and well beyond, England's exit.

Also Trent was very good.

Is Southgate irreproachable?

“Take the handbrake off ffs!”
Quickly followed by
“Fucking hell Gareth! What are you doing? We’re 4 nil down against Slovenia!” -

This is a really wanky take on people discussing football in the football thread. Of course there'll be an element of tactical critique.
It'd be pretty fucking dull otherwise.

tactical critique
lol

In your direct experience of managing a football team to a good standard, what has been the one thing you've noticed has the most effect when players cross the white line?
-
• #169598
Playing them in position.
PS. how did you know?

Where do those with FA Level 1 coaching badges (or above) go to discuss tactics?
Hard, but not impossible under the right guidance. Southgate doesn't seem to be the right man to get the best out of him.
