What a disgraceful action. To fucking hell with that club.

Any idea why Maddison cut from squad now, but no other names given? Feels like there's a story there but not seeing anything from a cursory google....
-
• #169379
Curtis Jones has been cut too.

guess means doesn’t have to waste time giving them a run out in final friendly tonight.
Maddison and jones aren’t good enough in any case

What shit reasons for not getting rid of VAR
Among the other reasons the Premier League cites to keep VAR is that the league is "contractually committed to significant operating cost elements of VAR for the next three years".
As the Premier League would be the only major European league to remove VAR if the vote passes, the league warns that it would be "potentially damaging" to its reputation, while English referees would not get major assignments for Uefa or Fifa tournaments "as regular experience operating both on-field with VAR and acting as VAR domestically are critical".
It absolutely ruins live football but the Premier League don't really give a fuck about the fans.

Huh, no mention of Jones cut on the BBC. No issue with either decision, just seems strange to release the names piecemeal. Why not just announce everyone at once?
-
• #169383
Because Southgate likes to treat players like adults so he lets them know when he’s made a decision on their status?
-
• #169384
Fair enough. Just seems a bit squid games. I think I'd rather not be singled out as the first/second/third person cut, letting everyone go at once seems more usual. Maybe as he narrowed down his training games/set-piece systems etc it would get so obvious to those not selected that the concern was their disappointment and continued focus/application - and once they've been let go you can't contain the news so have to announce it.

I think that last point is key, it’s hard to contain information like that.
Plus, it’s summer holiday time for footballers, so keeping players for an extra few days, just to stop leaks, deprives those not making the cut of time with their family/loved ones.
-
• #169386
I’m sure he’d rather be off on a plane with the family for a holiday than sitting around in a training camp waiting to be cut.
-
• #169387
Yeah, I get that. Still feels strange the drip-feeding of players out, but can see a rationale I guess.

I miss the days of Glen Hoddle and his Kenny G CD.

Grealish and Slabhead out now. Not sure about Bowen over Jack myself.
-
• #169390
Bowen offers more. Not saying he is better per se but I can see the reasoning, he can be asked to 90% of jobs on a pitch and carry it out well.
For example, Spain hit form and Rodri is pulling strings. I’d play Bowen to nip his ankles for 60 minutes and allow englands good players to play.
I genuinely think Braithwaite might be the big break out player at this euros if he’s given the chance.

Man City have broken Grealish. He used to be direct, pacy, happy to shoot and cross and a horror to play against. Now he'll beat a player, then pass it backwards to a teammate in a worse position
-
• #169392
I used to like Grealish a lot but I now just think he slows up the play and takes too many touches. Great at drawing fouls but not unhappy to see him out.

Branthwaite out too!
Bowen is decent, but Jack (when not playing Pep-ball) has the extra 'moment of magic' in him. Thought he did well against Bosnia.
-
• #169394
Hard agree with this.
-
• #169395
Branthwaite is a proper player. Was kind of hoping he’d have a bit part/quiet euros and stay with us for another year.
-
• #169396
Great! I mean it’s a stupid football decision but better for us. We kept more clean sheets than any team bar Arsenal last year. Pickford and our centre half pairing were the main reasons.
-
• #169397
Saka, Gordon, Bellingham, Foden, Palmer al provide the magic. Someone needs to do the work if needed.
*Gordon could do it also.
Braithwaite really out?! That’s a shock. Actually it’s not it’s textbook English management here.

It was highly predictable that taking the City dollar has ruined his career. Imagine him playing in Emery's Villa team this season, he would have played every game, probably scored 18 or 20 goals and guaranteed seat on the plan to Germany. Instead he spent all season sitting on the bench counting his petrodollars.
-
• #169399
He also won all this though.
And was injured most of the season to be fair
