  • According to Keown, it was all the refs fault

  • They only need 7 goals in 12 minutes to go through.

    BELIEVE!

"They" not "we" Andy? Distancing yourself?

  • Just been on SSN, according to Wenger, the tie was on a knife edge, until the ref made an absolute horlicks of the events leading to the crucial 7th goal, it was offside, never a penalty, and to top it all, never a red card. (To be honest, I agree about the red card, they should have been 7 - 2 down on aggregate, but with 11 men, not 10)

  • Glad I watched that. Decent performance by a somewhat uninspired Bayern. Can't blame them for not breaking sweat.

  • I must say, the officials were weird tonight. Made no difference to the outcome of the game at all but there were some decisions that were just odd.

  • 🤔

  • I obvs need to watch those highlights immediately, I crashed out half way through the Napoli/Real Madrid game so that's news to me...

  • The difference between last night and Barcelona 2012 was that we were already 1-0 up after the first leg and so had a lead to defend and not a gulf to bridge. We were set up to defend and did so. Arsenal went out to score and score again and in so doing exposed their rear.

Mind you, after the penalty and red card it was evident that they had too much to do and so should have played to avoid embarrassment and to save something from the evening.

But they didn't, for which I am grateful.

  • I actually feel sorry for Arsenal fans, a first...

  • I wouldn't. How many were delighted when Kroenke became owner, despite his track record of sports team ownership in the US clearly demonstrating that profitable mediocrity was his goal? Wenger is perfect for Kroenke because he'll produce a team that is good, and good to watch, whilst making a profit.

I know fans can't choose their owners, but they should be far more vociferous about who wants to be the custodian of their team.

  • From what I remember from when Kroenke bought in, the discussion at the Emirates was about his track record of fucking over his US teams. The feeling was of trepidation rather than happiness.

  • This is very true. The protests against Wenger are misplaced. Wenger has done an amazing job. When Arsenal were one of two sides who could afford to win the League, he won it three times. Now that there are more sides capable of winning and he no longer has the funds to compete, he has shown a level of consistency which is spectacular. Top four and knock out stages year after year.

If Arsenal want to change their position, they need to change those that command that strategy that Wenger so capably implements. Given the resources that he once had, he might well win again. But without them, he is destined to make the most of a poor hand.

  • It's a tough one, isn't it? A lot of teams/players/fans would bite your arm off for guaranteed CL football every season... I guess fans have been waiting for that jump up to the next level for so long that they've had enough... If Wenger goes I can see Arsenal dropping out of the top four quite easily...

There's a lot to be said for stability, I have no idea what that is being a Chelsea fan, but people soon get bored and the grass always appears greener... Interesting to see what Sanches does in the summer, we'll have him off ya..

  • Where were the protests though?

  • Looking at positives, Arsenal had 50% possession and as many shots off target as Bayern.

Think Bayern won the woodwork though and almost certainly the shirt sponsorship.

  • Fuck off. Imagine if it were Liverpool

  • A very different situation, I would laugh my arse off...

  • Given the resources that he once had, he might well win again. But without them, he is destined to make the most of a poor hand.

The thing is he has had decent money to spend on Özil, Sanchez, Xhaka and was gifted one of the best goalkeepers in the league by Roman.

You're right that he has consistently achieved for the club but imagine Chelsea winning two titles on the bounce with Conte followed by a decade of finishing fourth and getting kicked out of the second round of the Champions League, would you be asking for Roman to sell up, Conte to resign or give him another two years?

  • Body parts in football clubs:

    LIVERpool
    ARSEnal
    BourneMOUTH
HUDDERsfield (OK a cow's body part but still a body part)
    SCUNThorpe United
    GILLingham (a fish's body)
    PlyMOUTH Argyle

    and various including HAM

    Any others?

  • Clive. Are you alright hun?

  • Thought I should move on from laughing at Arsenal.

  • It's all very frustrating, don't the north London duo know it's Leicester's job to embarrass English football in Europe? In the meantime, Spurs get knocked out of two European competitions before we even manage one, and Arsenal get a record spanking...

  • It's down to Leicester to preserve the coefficient.

  • Without the coefficient, fourth place qualification could be in doubt with traumatic consequences for Arsenal.

  • Just in case we have a late surge under Shakespeare (or Hodgson - apparently)
