Overall in the league, yes. They have a squad which has gained more points than you over a number of games this season and in most recent seasons. They are generally acknowledged to be a stronger squad. If they play their best game vs your best game they will win.

How often they bring their best game against us is what needs to be looked at. Ask B&D...

You're not wrong. Apart from a strong 4 games over Christmas, we've been terrible.

One of the issues that has dogged WHU over the past twenty five or so years has been the ability to "need" to go one goal down before they start to really perform.

I obviously don't attend many games these days, but it was something that was prevalent throughout my game-viewing youth.

The bashmag barons were quite open and honest about the fact that they weren't going to start writing Abramovich sized cheques out when they took over the club. They assured the fans that it was going to be something that was slowly but steadily built.

Admittedly, like all clubs, there have been some players that haven't been the best, but overall the vast majority of WHU fans understand that it takes time.

Do people on this island still equate big spend with necessarily good? I detest the cult of the "marquee" signings...journos and EPL PR departments creaming about how much was spent, how much x,y and z cost yet can't do proper post match write ups on the game.

If you have decided on your style of play, have a decent scouting network [that consists of more than watching SouthamptonFC or players that play well against you for the two games/season] I just don't see the necessity for big spends. Sure the occasional cherry on the cake ballers but a cohesive team need not cost the earth. TV money has gone North and the traditional top spenders have gone South within the league and relatively against european rivals- maybe a blip but I look forward to the day those that signed off most of our recent transfer dealings are sacked [and they take their laptops and spreadsheets] and we buy players to fit a system and not try to change imports into things they are not.
