From what I saw I thought it was a great game. One you had to watch. Like properly watch. I got home at 1015 last night and caught the extra time only.
It was a proper semifinal between two teams aware of the other team's "star" player and his ability to counter quickly and decisively.

The tackle by Masch at the end was brilliant.

...and Dirk Kuyt. Who, from what I saw, was ace last night. You can all moan on about him being "dog shit" and "turd". He put in a proper shift as a footballer. He does what's asked of him. And he slotted that penalty with balls that big.

But the kind of player you'd really want in your ranks. NEVER EVER bottles it, I've never seen him miss a pen. Ask him to play any position on the pitch and he has the intelligence and humility to do it without raising an eye brow.

got holland in a second one but there's a prize for 2nd & 3rd... I was rather annoyed last night

Chalfie and TS, it was a match when both teams didn't want to lose rather than either wanting to win. About negating the others advantage/best player and neither having a plan b player who could step up and carry some of the load.
Lots of side to side, probing and hustle but very little in terms of attacking intent. The fact that all anyone can talk about is mascherano's defensive diligence and his last ditch block tackle on robben at the end of 90mins tells it all.
Quarterfinals are usually more entertaining than semi's less to lose more to gain and all that. This semi was just super super nervous.

Think Germany will take Argentina. They don't have one obvious player that you can close down and blunt their attacking possibilities. More of a team than either Argentina or holland. Have to say sneijder had a poor game and if a players not fit best to throw them on as an impact sub rather than start, as van Persie carried so little threat it was laughable..
Hoping the final brings out the best in both teams...

I think there was attacking intent. It was attacking by closing down.
There was a point in the extra time where huntlaar dropped back to cover Messi because Sneijder (i think) had pushed him back and then pushed onto the defender. That was beautiful to see. Then even better when Huntlaar moved back up and pushed Sneijder back.

That and the constant distance between each player on the same team. Triangles of space and that.

Understand where you're coming from chalfie, and not to go all Mikec but it bored the tits off of me. I want to see teams have a go and try and win a game, being a spurs fan I know all about glorious failure, but as mentioned previously I'd rather a team went down fighting 4-2 then hustled through a nil nil and lost on penalties.
Different strokes for different folks I guess.
But yeah Germany have too many weapons for Argentina and more depth off the bench, ozil having a poor game, kroos tiring, here's draxler and goetze to run with the ball at you. As much as it hurts me they've been the best team in his World Cup and if they can find a decent striker or two, you can see them doing the Spanish all winning thing for another couple of competitions..
