Why would we need to? Our billionaire owners basically paid off all our debt last season and we've just got new investment from one of the guys behind Candy Crush. Are you going to start planning how much of your parachute payments will cover the wages for Downing and Carroll in 2015?

Why would you expect Hodgeson to be jizzing on Barkley's face after that training game? His job is to protect the young prospects and deflect the media storm. You've spent too much time with your nose in the tabloids G.
Wilshire was ok but patchy, he's been like that since coming back from injury, he is plenty good enough for this squad. Lampard had a solid game, didn't do much but importantly didn't do much wrong, and he knows international tournaments, you'd be a fool to leave him out. Especially when you look at the youngsters who need some steadying. The Ox got himself injured, Stirling got himself sent off and Barkley makes some sublime runs but mostly into trouble where he loses the ball. And all that is in a no-pressure game. Milner needs to sharpen up, he looked like he'd rather be sat on a beach.
But this is all a side show, these games are to give players an almost competitive game to get a bit used to playing in an England side. In these game you don't want to get beat but more important, you don't want to get injuries, you don't want to give away too much about your tactics and you don't want to heap pressure on your players
