  • Was in Hub Cycles (massive bike shop mecca for all of-roaders in the Lakes) at Christmas, there is a masive Mint Sauce poster on the wall. Quality. Wonder if anyone will ever to a fixed cartoon?

  • this is one of the best lfgss threads ever !

  • I remember having to turn the magazine around loads of times to read the whole strip the text was always at crazy orientations.

  • my favourite mbuk freebie was the pair of ankle socks - i use them every summer on the bike, they are still white and red, and have no holes! approx 7 years worth of summer use too!

i love mint sauce, it captures what biking is all about

My sister nicked those off of me, when she moved out :(

  • not a fan myself but it always seemed a bit out of place in mbuk which is brought mainly by schoolkids who ride shitty saracens but dream of being the next steve peat.

is it boring to be such a cynic?

  • steve peat, now he was a hero, ahem, i mean... what?

  • i still have those socks too... they will never die

  • brought

Stop writing that! you do know it's wrong, right? it makes you sound like a 15 year old girl. and not in a good way.

I have not read MBUK in a few years but the lastly time I read it I would agree with you. However during the era of mint sauce I had a subscription and I would say MBUK was more about Tomac than Steve peat back then. I always like the magazine back then as it seemed to have a good mix from cross country and "down hilling" of the day to even some off road tours. I reckon the mint sauce era was the best for MBUK, but that may be my rose tinted view . Like I said said I don't know what it's about now but it seemed crap last time I read it but so does most of the content of every other bike magazine I've read lately.

  • is it boring to be such a cynic?

    i love every minute.

  • Anyone want crates of old MBUKs? I've got pretty much every one from 1993 to 1998 in my parent's attic.

I wish MBUK was as cool now as it was 15 years ago.

  • Rapidshare?..........

  • mint is still in mbuk. my mrs bought me a subscription for my last birthday & its still the first bit i read. oh, and my days of being 15 and dreaming of being the next steve peat are long past now!

  • man, i love mint sauce! i found a calendar from about 10 years ago the other day...to be honest, i always used to pinch mbuk from friends just to read the cartoon...haha.

  • Yeah, I only wanted to upload them once and RS lets me do more flexible things than free image hosts. If you don't have an RS account, you can still get them all more or less instantly, albeit with the minor inconvenience of captcha. I didn't get these complaints from 12500 image loads off RS elsewhere...

Email them all to me: david@buro9.com

And I'll upload them all directly to this site, which will then cache them in the content distribution network we have. It will be zippy, and no-one will have to go through the rapidshare pain.

  • So you just deleted them after uploading?...

It was GT Panteras and Jon Tomac in my day....

Psychadelic, moutain biking sheep. What's not to like?

And racing down big hills, with big jumps and NO suspension!

  • I've got some originals of Coleman and Harrison the rabbit somewhere from Bike '95/'96(?) at Earls Court, when Jo Burt crazily agreed to spend the weekend doing request sketches for fans (Saracen owning schoolkids...) on the MBUK stand. Must have the patience of a saint. I had the pleasure of riding with him last year, top bloke!

I always loved the attention to the bikes and components, particularly the Uk manufacturers - Pace, Middleburn, Hope - you could tell what Jo was lusting after, or conversely, had recently had trouble with.

  • oh wow, yeah, big mint sauce fan when i was about 11. my mate had been bored on a train last year and working as a bike mechanic, he just bought the first cycling magazine to hand.. ended up being mbuk.. i couldn't believe joe burt is still doing it, amazing. love the bit in eternal reek of damp wool where he gets his bird/sheepess preggers from sitting on his saddle and another bit about shooting the clouds to make it rain.. straight nostalgia yo!

  • ps. time to start the video collection-
    'dirt'
    'dirty tricks and cunning stunts'
    'get a grip'
    haha..
