  • I must say, those cranks do look rather long, are they 175s or something. If it were me, I would seriously consider getting 165s. I doubt you would be able to take that onto the track, if you wanted to that is

just 170's!? did a check of the crank arm, dont think she will be seeing a track but id like to know a badly timed pedal stroke and a sleeping policeman wont end me

  • Doesn't Sheldon reckon that rust is never a cause of frame failiure?

    Never say never. :)

Your coveted gold pedals may die if you strike.

    How high is your BB?

  • Your coveted gold pedals may die if you strike.

    How high is your BB?

bottom of bottom bracket 10'' from ground, pedal on full extension 5'' from ground

  • hhaahah, im actually negotiating terms with the lady of the bedroom to see if the bike can stay within the flat, so it may be within touching distance

ps remains nameless if i build up too much of it attachment it will remain unridden like all these did!....

if those are yours then i salute you sir!

  • they are / were indeed man
sold all but 1 (part of my transition to london) thats at my parents house
hence my eagerness to get involved and build a fixed lol

  • i wish you'd sold 1 to me

  • because it happened to you? user error probably.

What kind of user error might that be?

My LBS told me my frame would snap when ridden fixed but I didnt beleive them, a lot of people had been coming into the shop with similar conversions with snapped/bent dropouts.

I thought the frame seemed solid & in good condition so was actually rather surprised when mine went in a couple months of regular riding.

Looking back at it now, it seems obvious it would occur sooner or later, The dropouts are made of thin mild steel sheet metal.

Ive since met lots of people who have had similar experiences too. And also seen loads of bent forks aswell on entry level 80's raleighs.

They are nice bikes to ride though, comfortable & light.

  • will certainly keep an eye
i know this frame has limitations as its 501,
though anything goes wrong i;ll just use it as an excuse to upgrade/ begin a new build lol

  • or just get a new track end welded.

  • What kind of user error might that be?

a little bird told me that you ride like a chimpanzee having an enema..

    nah, just pullin yer leg.

I've never had problems in the past with those frames but I guess there's always a chance of something going, after all they are cheap and old. (like hippy)

  • You are older than me.. but you got the cheap bit right. What you missed is "heavy and slow".

  • I swear you search all threads for your name on this board, every five minutes

  • or just get a new track end welded.

    man with a plan
if it gives i will consider, love the paint /graphics too much at the mo to do so
liked the results you got from the flyer tho

  • I swear you search all threads for your name on this board, every five minutes

No, I just read ALL the threads. It's closer to every 30 seconds. Depends on how long it takes to type a reply, innit?

  • or just get a new track end welded.

Hey, how much did you pay to get those track ends welded on that mintgreen bike?

  • nice!
