Can't believe there isnt a thread about embro on here, so I've decided to revive this one.

I recently discovered the warm tingly joys of embrocation, bought some of this stuff the other day:

I'm finding though that it doesn't actually start to get 'hot' until after about 4 hours or so. Once applied I can appreciate the tingling and I can't say my legs are cold out but on using this stuff the first time on Sunday, It wasnt until I got off the bike after about 2 and a half hours riding tht my legs suddenly started to burn. Not to mention in the post ride bath!. Fucking hell I can see why they say you should not get any on your balls.

They say apply half an hour or so before you ride but 4 hours to start getting proper hot?

Anyone else here used this stuff?

I found that all embrocation does nothing when you want it to (when you are cold, or leaving the house early in the morning) but burns burns burns when the temperature rises and after the ride / in the shower etc. Rubbish.

The only good use for it is in deepest darkest winter, when it's pissing down with rain.

Embrocation is pointless for anything other than for figging when you run out of ginger.

dan: thats what im finding. No point in my legs being literally on fire when i've been home for two hours after riding. Or, like last night, after riding between 7 and 9: woke up at 2 o'clock in the morning with my legs burning like fuck.

Wasn't sure if its a per brand thing or just that everybody's skin reacts different to the stuff.

Embrocation and chamois creme world perhaps not the fastest moving realm in cycling? I know Robbie McEwen has some gooch cream out these days. That's about the only new thing I've seen since Deez Nuts or whatever it was from Dave Zabriskie.

I prefer to travel to an Alpine peak at the height of summer and scrape off the melted tar mixed with the painted names of famous riders and use that as a protective gooch balm..

Yeah, it's usually at its warmest and stickiest when you're trying to scrape it off your road grime-covered legs in the shower afterwards.

Embrocation keeps the heat in for me, and is great for my damaged knees. The layer of jelly stops warmth getting out.

The heat it generates is false, due to capsaicin reacting with the skin but you are not actually warmer. I do wonder if just a layer of BP jelly would do the same job.

Is there anything decent out there at the moment that will keep legs a bit warmer than if they were bare whilst riding for hours in the pissing rain?

I have some hot embrocation that I used once or twice many years ago but I remember it not doing a lot except burning in the shower and taking days to actually remove.

I can't fault the Rapha chamois cream, I think it is truly amazing. But the Assos ain't bad either. I have experimented with about 5 or 6 others. Those 2 are the top.

I like the euro style chamois butt'r bestest. Has tingling ingredients. These days thats the most stimulating thing that happens 'Down there'.

But its also thick. So it'll last.

The Purple harry stuff is actually really Nice too. But those dispensers take ages to dispense enough. Maybe my gooch is fat.
