  • I thought this would be the most appropriate section for this.

I've recently bought some new chamois cream:

It doubles as a great lip balm too.

Anyway. I've been using the Elite chamois cream for a while, rubbing it into the pad, and it's alright but I'd like to try something else. Any suggestions?

I've also been reading about embrocation (very difficult to find much info on the internet) and thought I'd give it a go. After reading about it all, deep heat seems to be very similar in it physiological effects so I slapped some on. It works alright and I think I'll plump for some proper stuff. Again. Any suggestions?

  • Best idea is not to put Deep Heat onto the pad of your shorts if you are a chap. The again, if you don't believe me, give it a go.

  • "we need to cover ourselves in embrocation and get up against the radiators, it's like Greenland in here!"

I only use udder cream for long rides, not track racing

  • This man is certainly getting the viral advertising, isn't he?

  • No one on this forum rides long enough to warrant the use of any such products.

how dare you! it's at least 500 yards to the kebab shop

don't you use it on your long commute from Ealing to Saddlers Wells, where you are currently appearing in a lavish production of "Fiddler On The Roof" ?

  • *"Fiddler On The Roof" *

wasn't that what the coppers wrote down on his charge sheet?

No, I quite like the abrasion factor of skin to raw chamois.

    Such a lie.

I wasn't on the roof at all. It was her balcony.

  • Her?

  • Well, before I got a close look.

    How was I to know...

  • you could have taken the blindfold off

  • My master wouldn't allow that..

  • and we're back on topic.
i use chamois cream every day for work. Assos is good, but expensive. Vaseline works ok if you use plenty of it.
Keep in mind though, it soaks through your shorts so if you are wearing them under jeans you'll end up with a big greasy patch there.

I vaguely recall people on the Aus newsgroup suggesting baby nappy rash cream as a cheaper alternative. It won't give you the chilled ball buzz that Assos gives you though. Sorbolene?

stratobiker and I think my coach mentioned these guy's products: http://www.qoleum.com/Products.aspx?id=1

  • Is Savlon any good?

Can't say I use any creams normally but will need to for the Tour of Ireland and should start experimenting. Would prefer to learn by other people's "third bollocks".

  • assos FTW

  • I've only ever used Assos. That's because I'd only ever heard of other people using Assos.
I only use it for proper/long rides. I don't use it for club runs or anything like that although with Assos knicks I don't need to. On sportives it's more of an insurance policy against discomfort. You don't want to pack because of chaffing.

  • assos chamois creme 24/7!!!

this is the best ever - http://www.sixtusworld.com/2_11.html

    sudacrem for healing...

  • +1 Assos

  • i want someone to buy some DZnuts and try it. Cliveo?

i used to use something that I think was the same as the one hippy posted above (Qoleum), and found it to be helpful on long rides.

i once accidentally got deep heat on my balls (yeah yeah, it was accidental alright, i had a groin strain - oh shit this just gets worse - and, well whatever...) and i recommend that nobody EVER **EVER **puts deep heat on their chamois.

  • Same goes for chopping chilis and then having a piss.. woooooohoooooooo! great balls of fire!
